Yeah but on Wednesday United's attack was about as impotent as me after a few beers. I expect Liverpool to be a lot more up for the fight.
I meant in the home fixture against Liverpool, not against United.

For the first 10-15mins v united it looked as though united could create dangerous situations at will. I am concerned about this being the case for the full 90 v liverpool as they all seem to be very mobile.

They'll have chances no doubt, and will probably score goals as well. But we've all seen that they're likely to give up plenty of chances down their end as well. Ultimately I think it'll come down to which of us converts their chances. We can't afford Kane to miss 2-3 good opportunities like he did against Utd.

Funny people dropping Son. The only way we’re gonna make their back line drop off is by having some pace in attack. Dropping Son will totally negate that and we’ll be unable to hit them effectively in transition

Lloris
Trippier Toby Sanchez Verts Davies
Wanyama Dembélé
Dele ——————- Son
Kane

Dier and Eriksen omissions are purely tactical, as they were both excellent last game out. Dier’s not as good with the ball at his feet under pressure as Wanyama (body strength) and Dembélé (close control).
Dele and Son better suited to marauding counter attacks than Eriksen.

That said, Sissoko will probably start. Book it.

I agree with this. While the formation is important, I think this game will hinge on whether or not we're really aggressive like in mid-week. It's always tempting to put all the 'strong men' in against a speedy Liverpool, have us sit back a bit deeper, and break. But we can't break anywhere if Kane is isolated and everyone else is one-paced. Having Alli and Son right up with Kane is the best way to rattle them.

When we played them at home, our direct running and passing made their back line make all sorts of decisions early on - most of them calamitously bad - and they never recovered. It's going to be just as important here to stifle their average midfield and backline, so that their forwards are fighting for scraps. I'd go with the same set up as mid-week, and hope we start better than we did last year up at Anfield.

Toby needs to play, he may not be fully fit but losing this game would be a huge blow for our top 4 hopes.

Probably got to go with the side that beat Man Utd, but we would be expected to be under the cosh much more.

I wouldn't change our tactics too much; Man Utd were fairly open and as long as we can ride out the early 'high press' Liverpool employ, we will have our chances.

What they did very well against us at WHL last season was give us no time on the ball an managed to keep that going for a good 60-70min.

We'll need Sanchez and Vertonghen's pace to cope with Salah and Mane; I worry Davies and Trippier will struggle to keep up with them. Could make an argument to start with Wanyama alongside Dier then bring on Dembele later in the game once we've weathered the storm.

If we try to play our usual possession based game we will get slaughtered. Surely poch realises after madrid, dortmund and the first pool match that the best way to go is to sit and counter. We also lost trying to play that style against the other top 6 teams so I don't believe that he could be that naive, especially after last season's match at anfield and the city game the week before it.

Aurier was brilliant against Salah on the left last time we met them. If he's fully fit, I want him to start there.

He only played about 80 minutes this season with the additions at PSG, not really going to be match fit. Was training, but training to be in shape for Ligue 1 what Poch expects are 2 different things.
Oh okay might see a cameo at Newport then!

Don't think he's played for a long time. Emery completely froze him out.
Makes sense he gonna need a few weeks then. To be honest I always worry abou players who have been frozen out at their old clubs you just have to ask why? I guess you hope it was because he was to good for the team and wanted to move on. But it seems he was just not playing because the manger thought there were better players in front of him.
Could be a good buy, you never know with this kind of situation but then again 25 mil in this market is nothing
