Gomez and Ox are nowhere near starting.

Ox apparently picked up a muscle issue while playing for the U23s, but Gomez is supposedly not that far off and (according to the link I posted this morning) it "would be a brave call by Klopp to select him after a long lay off".

The first option, with Dele or Eriksen playing deeper. Do not want a flat back four with Trippier and Rose pushing up, otherwise as soon as they turn over possession Sala and Mane will have a field day.

If we play a 4 we need a proper DM and I just don’t trust wanyama. Therefore see no other option but a 3 with eriksen or dele partnering Sissoko.

Because almost every other top clubs player mysteriously ends up pulling out with a life threatening injury, only to miraculously recover for their next club game a few days later.

Whereas Salah had permission to sit out Egypt’s games to get fresh for Liverpool’s run-in, and several Man Utd players including Lingard pulled out despite being fit, Son has an 11,000-mile round trip and Dele & Aurier are injured on duty while playing entirely unnecessary cake walks only just back from injury. We’re mugs

Assuming Aurier Dier Winks are injured:

----------------Lloris--------------
-------Toby-Sanchez-Verts------
Trips-------------------------Rose
---------Eriksen----Sissoko------
Son--------------------------Alli---
---------------Kane----------------

Subs
Gazza Foyth Davies Wanyama Lucas Lamela Llorente

I think it's very important we play 5-2-2-1. This reverts to a flat 4 in midfield when defending. 2 reasons: less space on the wing where they're much more dangerous and Poch reverted to this against Dortmund pulling Son into the wing which is a performance we want to repeat!

My only ask is that Son, Dele, Eriksen and Kane all start. When these 4 play were a different beast.

I really hope not.

I understand your opinion. I'm just not enthused about (what appears to be) a half broken Wanyama playing.

Many of us have spoken about the need to really press, frustrate & harass Liverpool. So that's the logic behind my Lamela musings.

I’m not enthused about Wanyama either, but I’d rather play Dele centrally than Lamela. If Lamela plays in CM then first and foremost he’ll be carded within the first 20 mins and then won’t be able to make a proper tackle for the remainder of the game.

If you mean centrally as a number 10, then yeah I agree that’s far and away Lamela’s best position, but ultimately I think that despite his pressing qualities we simply have better players than him in those positions as well.

Not sure I agree about harassing Liverpool either. I think pushing up too high against them is a mistake. We’d be better served by frustrating them by not giving them space in behind like we’ve done in a few CL performances over the last couple of seasons.

Winks out would be a blow, but I think Dier missing might be a blessing in disguise for this game. The thought of him playing in these games against a hard pressing team brings me out in a cold sweat.

Issue is certain players are allowed to take "liberties" because of their importance.
Salah is a prime example of someone who is so important to Egypt, that he pretty much dictates when and where he plays. As a result he can afford to "ask" (i.e. tell) Egypt that he needs to skip those matches to concentrate on Liverpool. In return Salah is fit for Liverpool and promotes Egyptian football by being able to play at his best.

It's a win win for all concerned at Liverpool and Egypt.

Kane, Dele, Dier, Trippier. Rose... whilst all very good or exceptional players, are not critical to England. There are other good players who can take over those roles and England just wouldn't be beholden to one player anyway. The competiton is healthy for England, but bad news for Tottenham when it comes to player fatigue or injury.

On the plus side, having 3-5 players constantly in the team or even starting line-up is good news for gaining future fans (especially the young). I became a Tottenham supporter afer watching Lineker and Gascoigne play for England. Whilst you miserable lot might not see that as a win, I have been a true ambassador to the club here in the Rheingau area and now thanks (in a small way) to me, loads of the kids want to play as Tottenham on FIFA because I banged on about how good Harry Kane is.

Yes, he is obviously seen in the Champions League, but also for England and International football is very important to a lot of countries outside of England.

But I digress... Here's hoping Salah is not rested but rusty and that our inured boys recover in time.

If Dier and Winks are both out, it’ll be Wanyama with Sissoko in the middle.

Definitely. The Dier injury with England is exactly the reason why he shouldn’t have been called up. It’s really screwed us for this game. I think he’d of shared minutes with Wanyama. Now Wanyama is going to be expected to play about 70 minutes which is probably a big ask. Maybe Winks will be fit enough to play some part off the bench.

It’s a problem against Liverpool too because in order to be a success against them I think you have to outnumber them in midfield to prevent them releasing their strikers. Stop the ball getting to their front three early is the key. Pinning back their fullbacks is the other. I just don’t see us having the fit personnel to do both so we will need a massive slice of luck or just try and out score them. Knowing Poch he will probably go for the outscoring option. If so, we will need to do something we haven’t been good at this season and that is be clinical in front of goal and take our chances.

If Dier and Winks are out do we risk a half crocked Wanyama or should we go with Skipp or maybe even Foyth. One thing's for sure, I don't want to wee Eriksen pussying out of challenges in the middle of the park like he has done lately.
