Dier instead of Sanchez?

Only 6 subs?

No Lamela in the squad?

?

Absolutely he is, but then does Winks offer enough defensively to be the deepest midfielder? I don’t think so.

Do people think NDombele should have to cover for Winks defensively when NDombele is supposed to be higher up the pitch?

Playing Winks in the DM position isn't just about his defensive work (which I don't think is a problem anyway). IMO, him receiving the ball in deep positions enables Ndombele (and hopefully LoCelso) to find a bit of space a little further forward where they can drive us forward. I'd sooner see Winks given this job than Sissoko or Dier who aren't nearly as good as Winks at receiving and recycling. I'd give him time to build an understanding with TN and GLC as a midfield 3, being as both the other 2 like to push on up the pitch.

Would you think Poch will start Son straight away? Can't see Poch dropping Lamela and there is certainly a case to start Lucas.

As a sidenote: considering Alli will return soon and Lo Celso can play as a number 10 as well, we'll have so many options offensively. Great to see!

As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, Son's returning from a suspension, not an injury. So I think he'll start alongside Lamela and one other behind Kane.

I honestly think that Son has now reached that level where if he's fit, he's in the team.

4-3-3 is more preferable to me than 4-2-3-1 as long as Dier plays in the middle of the 3 so that we have 5 players back. Ndombele and lo Celso either side means more creativity, albeit I think Sissoko will start. I was calling for winks to play DM before the season began, but it's already clear that this just won't work because his defensive nous isn't up to the the required standard. Playing a proper DM means 5 can launch into attack rather than the standard 4 in a 4-2-3-1 with a double pivot. I feel like Ndombele needs to be further up the pitch.

As atrocious as Newcastle have been, I can't see Poch 'risking' Lo Celso from the start, purely down the time he wants to totally bed players in.
The hope would be to take control as quickly as possible and then give Lo Celso decent minutes from the bench.

It would already be Son and Jan's first games back, don't think he will risk another 'new' starter.

I think Poch will opt for:

Hugo
KWP - Sanchez - Jan - Rose
Sissoko - Ndombele
Moura - Lamela - Son
Kane

I think Steve Bruce has never been more out of his depth (and never really rated him), but football is never that easy, think Poch will play safe until/when/if we take control.

Couldn't agree more, he has come so far in the last couple of years. Even if he is having a quiet game the opposition will still be very wary of him. Especially after his wonder solo goal last season.

Don’t want to see us start Lucas and Son in a 4-2-3-1. I don’t think it works to play them both together, unless Kane is missing.

Newcastle are going to sit deep and restrict space in behind so two players who would be looking to stretch them and run into space that doesn’t exist makes no sense.

For me think I’d like to see this.

Lloris
Walker-Peters Alderweireld Sánchez Rose
Winks Ndombele
Eriksen Lamela Son
Kane

Sissoko dropped for this. We wont need him. He’s reverted to type the first 2 matches. Have him focus on returing to last season’s form for next weekend.

Time to bring Poch’s training methods under a microscope.

No to players in transfer limbo: Big Vic, Serge, and Eriksen. Maybe bring in Serge. But im leaving out Big Vic until this Brugge thing is settled either way. Eriksen should be left out until Palace or until he gets over himself being in love with a club that wants nothing to do with him.

Is this the Sissoko who provided Kane's assist for the 3rd against Villa? Or who won the corner we equalised against City from?

Gutted Ndombele is out - thought he would really show what he could offer to the team against Newcastle...
