Can't argue with any of that BK007. He made a similar mistake in the same fixture a few months ago, and it was arrogance to not come back absolutely pining to make up for it.

Got to wait for 4 more days to see if we add anyone.
Hopefully we can tie up Berahino & N'jie by then

I don't really care if you enjoy the forum, Chilli....

Have you met mikeeegreen yet? I think you'd get on.

I know you don't man, it was a joke, I didn't realise you would take it personally.

Relax and let's get back to talking football :)

Kane -------- Lamela

Eriksen ----- Alli ----- Dembele ----- Chadli

Rose ------ Verts ------ Alder ------ Trippier

Llorris

If we hadn't have sold Fredericks, Stambouli, we could have gone;

Kane -------- Lamela

Eriksen ----- Alli ----- Stambouli ----- Fredericks

Rose -------- Verts -------- Alder -------- Trippier

Llorris

Far more balanced, dynamic than that sack of shite I have seen for the last 2-3 years....
I'm surprised you're posting on a Spurs forum now that you manage Aston Villa.

Lloris

Walker Dier verts rose

Toby A Alli / bents

Mason Eriksen Chadli

Kane

Toby has an excellent passing range which I think would benefit the midfield more than his being cb. Dier is a good cb. The team lacks pace though. I'd start Bentaleb and replace with Alli if he was having another shocker.

Lloris

Walker Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose

Alli Bentaleb

Lamela Eriksen Chadli (Berahino)

Kane

I feel like we need the added dynamism of Rose, Alli and Lamela ahead of Davies, Dier and Dembele if we want to break down Stoke. Berahino in for Chadli if he signs and is ready.

I appreciate your point about Alderweireld at DM but I'd quite like to see him and Jan establish a centre back partnership and play together continuously.

In the long term, agree. But until the cm2 is sorted, which I don't think it ever will be (I'm an advocate for 4-3-3) I think this would to go a long way to making us hard to break down.
I'd also like to see mason played In the front 3, he would be suited to defending from the front and I also think he'd get goals. I like lamela, but I think mason would be more effective, not based on stats, just plain old observation. I think mason has a good eye for a pass and is a tenacious little sod.

@TheGreenLily sorry mate, was just a bit of a joke. But you can't honestly prefer a side with Stambouli and Fredericks over the one that bossed United for much of the game at Old Trafford. I know it's somewhat romantic to pine for the days of the 442 and the classic number 9 and you might feel jaded seeing wingbacks and inside forwards as opposed to wingers and such but surely you have to recognise that it's moved on and just about all the best sides are using a variation of a 4231 or 433. We might not be at the stage where we have the same individual quality of the best sides but Poch is moulding a youthful team to play in the same style as the very best and with the way our academy is now, with the aim of emulating the success of the very best.

We bossed for the first 20 mins then when they scored, we just bottled it like a bunch of pussy's. But then ManU were not that great either and were there for the taking. For the rest of the 70 minutes, we was cowardly shite and we could have have... there was a lot wrong yesterday...

And yes, we could have played 4-3-3 as well, not just a 4-4-2, as per many of my team selections last year were 4-3-3, but to play a 4-3-3 we need a player like stambouli as a DM and you need a winger like Fredericks/Lennon to attack the right to create chances or goals. Lamela does not do this, we have no one in this ilk at all.

I really hate 4-2-3-1 and that is the point...

Absolutely ridiculous the amount of people who want Bentaleb dropped after one, albeit awful, performance in the first game of the season.

In my defence I've wanted him dropped for roughly 18 months :D

You may think I'm wrong but please don't call me fickle, guy just isn't my cuppa tea.

On an absolutely unrelated note, I quite like the idea of 352 with our players, but then I've always felt it was a formation that would succeed with the right personnel. The catch with me, given his proficiency in the air, his strength, and his signs of being far better defensively than offensively, is that I'd have Walker as an RCB as when we attack the CBs need to split into being FBs anyway:

Lloris
Alderweireld
Walker Vertonghen
Trippier .............................. Rose
Mason Alli
Eriksen
New CF Kane

With a reserve of:

Vorm
Fazio
Dier Wimmer
Yedlin .............................. Davies
Winks Bentaleb
Pritchard
Lamela Chadli

Both sweepers are players with a good reading of the game and experience in midfield, as well as a decent pass, so could be trusted to bring the ball out of defence. Both LCB's and RCB's have plenty of full back experience to be able to split when the wing backs bomb forward. Both sets of CMs lack much defensive nouse but enjoy high levels of technique and athleticism and speed of moving the ball on, plus would be less responsible for the defence with the presence of three behind them. The AMC would be free to find whichever pockets of space he prefers to try and knit the game together. He could go wherever the ball was left eight or centre to take responsibility and combine with either wingback in doubling up on their marker. And the front line, one man with strength and techniques to play a bit further forward and bully defenders, be an outlet and hold up the ball, one quicker player to make runs and attack from a touch deeper/ combine with both the target man and the ACM as well as overload the opposition box when the ball is out wide.

But, see as this has a cat in hells chance of happening, I'll plump for:

Lloris
Walker Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose
Mason Alli
NewFW Eriksen Chadli
Kane

With the obvious caveat that Hugo and Rose are fit and sign a forward by the match. Otherwise give Carroll, Pritchard or Onomah a crack and adapt Eriksen and Chadli accordingly.

Whenever Montero got the ball for Swansea, I felt like something could happen just from the 1 on 1 positions he's got himself in, playing little one two's with Siggy etc, loved it.
Yep same. Ours is just not the same we need to sort it out ASAP with the new signings.

We need pace in the team plain and simple. Stretching teams will allow our good ball players the chance to show what they can do. We have not had this since Defoe left, people used to moan that he was offside a lot but most of the time it was done to allow the midfield space. Against Stoke I think we should go.

Lloris
Walker. Toby. Verts. Rose.
Alli. Carroll
Chadli. Kane. Eriksen.
Berahino or N'Jie (whoever signs in next few days)

Same team as United game.
Just tell them to keep up the first 20 minutes for the whole game.
