Because, if I'm not mistaken, he is not quite in a match-fit shape, and probably is not fit enough at this point to handle it. And even if he is fully match fit, he is performing on a level that I think doesn't warrant being nailed on for a starting spot at the moment.

If our backup LCB isn't fit 6 months into the season and cannot play 4 matches in a week then I'd really question Poch's training methods or question the player's fitness, neither would be a problem in reality so I'm not sure why Wimmer cannot play the other matches?

Because he evidently can't even handle one full match of 90 minutes yet, that's why. And despite not being taxed with one full match yet, he can't even perform supremely for the amount of time he is on the pitch. That's why 3 matches (not 4) in a week is an exceedingly bad idea.

I suspect Davies will get a chance as the left centre back, though personally for this game I'd probably go 4-2-3-1 with Son as additional attacking threat instead of Davies/Wimmer.

Wont happen but I wouldn't mind seeing:

Lloris
Walker Alderweireld Dier
KWP Wanyama Dembele Rose
Eriksen Alli
Kane

Dembele can't play two games in a week. This has been proven many times. Winks will start. I expect Son to play as his form merits it. I expect us to play 4 at the back, Dier and Toby. Wimmer hasn't played well at all and can have no complaints at losing his place.

Are we going to ignore the fact that he played 90 mins against Arsenal, Chelsea and Watford then?

Where's the evidence that it's down to fitness.

I'll have to disagree with you here. He's not nailed on for a starting spot, he's simply the best option for that position we have. He got hooked against City for a poor performance, and against Wycombe because we changed tactics. He played pretty well in the 3 against Arsenal (despite the OG), so I'd like to see us have a little bit of faith in him.

Quite, yes, you would say that wouldn't you.
Happy though that you brought up the Arsenal match. Particularly nasty example of a bad day for Wimmer, wasn't it. Real shame that one was.

Wimmer played well in the Arsenal match, not particularly sure why you'd be happy about that because it doesn't prove your point either way? Not really sure what your argument is and it sounds like you do neither...

As much as I like & favour our current 3-4-3, I would go for 4-2-3-1 given how well Son is playing at the moment. Jan's absence is forcing us to do a CB change. But why do we need to go 3 CB to mark just Defoe. Defoe is in fine form - but he will be anyway isolated given we will have the ball.

My XI

Lloris
Walker, Dier, Toby, Rose
Wanyama, Dembele
Eriksen, Alli, Son,
Kane

Poch made a big deal earlier in the season saying that he plays left footed players on the left and right footed players on the right, and that Wimmer would get his chance when a left sided spot opened up. I'd be amazed if he dropped him to move Dier or Toby across to play LCB. Only way he'd get dropped is to play Davies who can play at LCB in a back 3 (as he does for Wales). Personally I think he'll stick with Wimmer so he can play into some form and sharpness as we will need him the next 8-10 weeks whilst Vertonghen is out.

Would listen to what poch says. Very should be back in 4-5 weeks. Can see a Dier and Toby back 4 for a lot of games

Fair point. Wimmer did a great job last year. But then last year Wanyama was not around & Dier was playing CM. Wimmer isnt having a good season as of now.
Question is
i) Do we play Wimmer & switch to 3-4-3
ii) Drop Wimmer & retain Dier in 4-2-3-1

Considering Wimmer & Son's form, I would prefer the latter.

Wimmer is not starting vs. City, the Wanderers, Sunderland and Middlesbrough. That, I think, is rather unlikely. So if you don't want to see Davies starting either tomorrow or at the latest in the weekend, you might become very disappointed.

Why would I be disappointed? Not much to choose between Davies and wimmer in the left cb role imo I just think pochettino will go for wimmer.
Wimmer has been sitting on the bench vertically all season,he needs games to get match sharp as he has looked of the pace since coming back in

I think we'll go 3-4-2-1 and reckon Son will miss out, which is a shame as given his form I think it's fair he starts. He's been playing well recently.

I wonder if Pochettino will consider a back 4 to do this? I suspect not. But if he did...

Lloris
Walker Dier Toby Rose
Wanyama
Dembele
Son Dele Eriksen
Kane

Phew that's a relief, at least he remembers how to sit

We could also play 3-5-2 with Kane / Son up top, which is what we did in first game we switched to 3 at back.

For me its gotta be a back three with Dier in right side of that and Walker / Rose given more attacking freedom as wing backs.

I think the Wimmer option would be safe to play against Sunderland.
