Are we expecting any injured players back? Am I right in thinking Aurier is back in training? Maybe Vertonghen?

If Aurier isn’t back, then Davies to start.
As Aurier has played at LB before, I think he would be able to handle the Tranmere attackers. It would give more playing for him (to get back some match fitness) and KWP.

I would save Aurier and Vertonghen for United - i.e. don't risk a set-back here. I'd put Dier on the bench, if he is ready, and get him a short run-out in the 2nd half.

Sissoko can not start this game. He has played throughout the Christmas period (brilliantly I might add) and is one of the first names in need of a deserved rest.

Was going to say exactly this. It’s not even about deserving at this point, we have to rest him n order to keep him sharp for the PL.

Well we have only Winks and Sissoko available out of proper first team central midfielders and out of those Sissoko can probably cope better with extra games. If Moose is available, then Moose and Skipp, otherwise Sissoko and Skipp. We need to get through anyway. Come Chelsea it's back to Sissoko and Winks.

Those that should be nowhere near it; Kane, Eriksen, Sissoko, Winks, Toby, Rose.

Dele can play a part if he needs the fitness. Son can play as he’s clearing off soon anyway.

So something like:

Gazza
KWP- Foyth - Sanchez - Davies
Skipp - Dele
Moura - GKN
Son - Llorente

Pack the bench with youth. Hate to say it but this is our lowest priority at present.

What’s the latest on Dier and Verts?

Agree with the above post, I’d play Davies at CB next to Foyth. Surely we have a kid in the ranks that can play at left full back against Tranmere?

Kane, Sissoko, Toby, Sanchez, Rose, Winks and Eriksen to be rested. Front four of Moura, GKN, Son and Llorente.

Complete rest for rose, sanchez, winks

Assume no imminent return for dier, verts, mousa, lamela, big vic

Not sure when son goes to asia but I'd rest him anyway

Don't see point of playing llorente if he is supposedly about to leave, would rather parrott got the minutes and experience

Strongish bench in case of a Newport/rochdale style scare/twist
