On Thursday we finally need a win and a confidence boost again to continue against Newcastle.

Tripolis:

-----------------------------Vorm--------------------------------
-Walker-Peters---Fazio------Vertonghen-------Davies--
-------------------Stambouli----Dembele---------------------
------Lamela--------------Kane-------------Townsend------
---------------------------Soldado------------------------------

subs: Lloris, Dier, Bentaleb, Paulinho, Lennon, Adebayor, Eriksen

I fear we might see Vlad here.

Newcastle:

----------------------------Lloris-----------------------------
Dier--------Kaboul----------------Verty------------Rose-
---------------Capoue-----------Mason--------------------
------Lamela--------------Eriksen--------------Chadli----
--------------------------Kane (more likely Ade)-----------

subs: Vorm, Davies, Stambouli, Dembele, Townsend, Soldado, Ade

Same team today against Newcastle with Verts in for suspended Fazio

Against Tripolis;

As long as we rest Lloris, Lamela, Mason and Eriksen then i'm not too worried. We have a good enough squad to put out a very good team. Be nice to see Stambo and Davies get the time to adapt and find their feet a bit more.

The Tripolis game is a great opportunity to integrate Walker-Peters. Tbh, if one youth player is the difference between us winning and losing or drawing this game given the gulf in quality of the sides, we don't deserve to win it anyway. Where not so long ago was one of our deepest positions, is atm one of our absolute thinnest. Simply no reason not to give a go to one of our brightest performing youngsters in this match.

Same for me. I know Fazio started against City, but he isn't ready for the EPL yet I don't think. I don't know why Poch thought to start him, maybe Verts wasn't fully fit after the International break, or maybe he thought Dzeko would start, or even felt that he and Kaboul struck a good pair together whilst training throughout the International break, but Vertonghen and Kaboul is our best partnership right now and we should go with that in the league. I actually wouldn't have minded Fazio against Newcastle instead of City, but I want us to get back to having our strongest pair in the league. Also, knowing how fucking stupid the FA are, they probably won't recind his red card anyway.

Vorm

Lennon Fazio Verts Davies

Capoue Bentaleb

Townsend Kane Chadli

Stambouli Mason

Lamela Eriksen Chadli

Soldado

If Naughton is fit he plays v Newcastle, Dier is switched to cb vs Tripolis in place of Verts, and is dropped to the bench vs. Newcastle in place of Chiriches.

I would start Soldado up with Kane just behind, Townsend and Lamela on the wings, Stambouli and Dembele in the middle. Not sure about defence but Vorm in goal.

Poch said there was a chance that Naughton would be back for Thursday. If he's still of that opinion on Tuesday, I'd play Dier on Thursday to give Naughton a couple more days to recover for Newcastle. Worst case Dier plays both.

I'm fed up with Chiriches so Vertonghen plays both games - but if we get are ahead after 60/70 minutes its time to give Dominic Ball (E u20 CB his first appearance) to give Vertonghen a bit of a rest. Hopefully Bemtaleb has had more coaching in his CM role, so time to test that out.

Still not convinced by Soldado will score goals, but I leave that selection to Poch

Asteras Tripoli

--------------------------Vorm--------------------------------
-Dier --------Fazio------Vertonghen-------Davies--
-------------------Stambouli----Bentaleb---------------------
------Lennon--------------Kane-------------Townsend------
---------------------------Soldado/Adebayor---------------------

subs: Lloris, Ball, Chiriches, Dembele, Paulinho, Adebayor/Soldado, Eriksen

I'd like to get in the habit of having 2 youngsters on the bench, to bring on if we are ahead after 60/70 minutes, but the question is who to drop from the bench ?! First candidates to consider probably Kyle Walker Peters (RB/LB) or Nathan Oduwa (wing forward) in place of.......Paulhino ? Of course even with 2 youths on the bench that still leaves 5 experienced players - of whom the coach/manager can only play 3, so the bench is not that weakened.

Newcastle:

----------------------------Lloris-----------------------------
Naughton/Dier-----Kaboul----Vertonghen----Rose-
---------------Capoue-----------Mason--------------------
------Lamela--------------Eriksen--------------Chadli----
--------------------------Soldado or Adebayor

Subs : Vorm, Dier/Chiriches, Stambouli, Dembele, Kane, Townsend, Soldado/Adebayor
