Dembele has to play for us to try control the middle of the park. Dier is far too pedestrian for my liking. I posted early on in the thread the team id boldly go for and i stand by it (despite poch not going to leave dier out)

-----------------------Lloris-----------------------
---------------Toby-----------Vert---------------
Trippier---------------------------------Davies
-----------------------Dembele-------------------
----Moura---Eriksen---Lamela---Alli----
---------------------------Kane---------------------

4-1-4-1.

Were not expecting to win really are we? Ss much as we should we simply cant get past them nulifying us and pinching a goal....it always happens. Even if we played 6 at the back and defended for 90mins we would concede a goal to fellaini so f*** it and go out and attack em.

Like that.
Wont happen but I like it.
They will score as you say so we need to score at least 2 to win imo.

I love Dembele, I just think there’s a strong argument to suggest that, winning or losing, he’s now most effective in the final thirty minutes coming on fresh against a tired midfield.

An argument yes, but not factual. It depends on circumstances to me, I know I'd much rather have Dembele as he is over a fully fit Sissoko in the centre of midfield and in a midfield 2 when playing 4 at the back there's still no one who stands out as a better option to partner Dier than Dembele IMO.

I'll reserve judgement regarding his effectiveness starting until the time he does start a game for us this season.

Our midfield this season, until Dembele has come in, couldnt control games against Newcastle and Fulham. I'm not sure we had won either one of them without him.

Has to play.

Is Matic and Valencia back for them? Hope not, because they'll improve them quite considerably.

Both have returned to training and considering how important Mourinho feels they are I would expect both to start.

Totally agree- and what you said demonstrates with utmost clarity the utter madness of not acquiring anyone over the summer to help even somewhat alleviate the issue of what happens to our team when Dembele doesn’t/can’t play.

Dembele is the player Manu fans are always afraid, you can read it from their fansites. And there's a reason for it..

He wasn't too hot last time we played them...
That’s because he ran the show in the previous match after Christmas. Mourinho then put two or three to shut him down every time he got the ball - stop Dembele and stop Spurs Tactic. We didn’t adapt to the tactic and change things. That’s not Dembele’s fault

To add to my post Mourinho always learns from the previous match and I see similar qualities in Poch

I quite like his new role as a closer, but until Winks is fit to start, Dembele should start the big games.

It will be nice for Harry to finally turn up at Old Trafford for once.

Under Sherwood Kane came on towards the end and played very tactically well to help us win. Apart from that I don’t think he’s ever had the support up front against them at OT, he’s always been isolated. More due to tactics or belief from the team as a whole than Kane himself.

We always seem to have someone who has a brain fart against them at OT such as Walker, Gomes or the ref

Hit nail on the head for me. We still approach games at OT as if Man U were still the force they once were. They've had utter shit teams in last several years and we still go there cautious as fuck. Expose their defence which is their weakness and we'll win. Sit back and counter we'll lose. Imo.
