imo a tough decision. I think we started well with three at the back but we let Fulham more into the game and had to make adjustments which turn out for the better when bringing Dembele and Lamela on.

How about a old fashioned 4-4-1-1 with Toby and Jan at the back? I don't fancy Rose starting as he lacks in form. He didn't convince me at all during the WC when he got his chance.

We started well with 3-5-2...but..

I don't think Dier is mobile enough to play the role alone in midfield, Fulham got the better of him once they worked us out and we only regained control when Dembele came and played alongside him.

I reckon we have the players to do what Southgate’s England did. Dembele in the Henderson role, with Dele and Harry dropping in to midfield as needed, with Lucas and Eriksen in the Sterling and Lindgard roles. Harry pinging balls to Trips and over the top to Lucas would put pressure on any defence.

Can't for the life of me understand any teams without Lucas.

A great performance on Saturday, and the pace and workrate to keep United's back line occupied and create space for Kane.

I'd be tempted to go with a similar looking 3-5-2 set up, maybe even the same set-up.

Get at them early, and then shore up if we need to, rather than looking to be solid and hit late.

Eriksen——————Alli
Lucas——Kane

Fine but Eriksen and Alli have to be far more disciplined positionally in this game. We saw how Dier got completely overrun in the second half v Fulham, and United will play with a 3 man midfield so we really need to make sure we're not outnumbered in the middle of the park.

Make no mistake, it's not a good thing that Utd got beat by Brighton.

Jose will demand a response from his players and he loves games against the the bigger teams. I'd expect to see Lingard come back in for them, Sanchez too assuming he's fit. They'll pick a more tried and tested side with likes of Herrera and his shithousery. A midfield trio of Fred, Pogba and Pereira in the first two games has been weird even by Jose standards. It'll be Herrera, Lingard and Pogba on Monday.

The upside for us is that I don't see them suddenly getting better defensively. Lindelof is awful and Bailly is suffering as a result. I'd like to see us start this one cautiously because their defense is breachable even if we don't put out an attacking team. Last thing I want is for us to give up an early goal and then have Jose park his bus and we lose 1-0 up there like last season in some boring, turgid affair.

I would seriously consider starting Lamela for this one for his work rate. If so then it would be in place of Lucas because I think he could be a good impact player off the bench late in the game to run at a tiring defence.

It's a 4-2-3-1 for me.

Dier Dembele
Lucas Eriksen Alli

Absolutely- they will be massively up for it. I don’t think anyone should assume they’re there for the taking. We need to work our arses off for the full game and really get in their faces

Thought we did quite well when 3 at the back. Rose, Dembele and Lamela should start.

Premier league football is far superior to international stuff. Poch's Spurs would absolutely annihilate Southgate's England, you'd never see Spurs capitulate the way England did against Croatia.

What I mean by this is Southgates 3atb system worked well in the WC but I don't think it's a template you can just stick on our team & think it'll be just as effective. Dembele in the Henderson role for example just isn't mobile enough and would get absolutely overrun by a team like United.

I wasnt a massive fan of 3 at the back on saturday but I think we will need to play it next week. I'd go exactly the same team.

Absolutely, Poch's quotes regarding this game have got me fired up though. He's said exactly what I wanted to hear.

To be fair, we literally did twice last season vs United and Juventus.

Same team, get a lead and bring dembele on at 50 or 60min

Dele and Eriksen just need to play a little deeper

As I said in another thread, we will be facing an angry Utd in a match under the lights. For some unknown reason the atmosphere in night games out does any other KO time. Their crowd will be up for it, moaninho will do what he always does set up for a 0-0 and hope to nick something on the break.

Brighton just beat them by what looked like a 433, and think we should go the same. Whatever back 4 or 5 he chooses against us, we have the players that won’t let them settle. I’d rest Sanchez and to be honest I’d even consider using Lamela in place of Alli, just for the hurrying he would cause. We need to come out fast and get at them from the get go, and hope Kane can get rid of another hoodoo, a goal at OT.

Plenty of pace and closing down, I just hope Matic is still missing for them, but don’t see their defence being able to cope with the closing down.

I f*cking love everything that comes out of this guys mouth. How can you not be fired up as a player when your manager comes out with stuff like that?

They were without Matic and Sanchez. If they play, coupled with the intensity of the situation and it being at their shite hole, then it won't be as easy for us as it was for the Seagulls. Tough, tough game. I'd take a draw now. However, as the week unfolds maybe the United players will properly revolt and down tools thus letting us win in order to get Jose the sacking he so richly deserves ??

No no no. That system was kak the midfield was bypassed and there's to much empathise on the defenders with the ball.

I think we'll see the 433/343 hybrid with Dier dropping into the back 3 when we have the ball and Trippier/Rose or Davies pushing up. Whatever happens we need to match them in CM though which means Eriksen dropping in there when needed. Dembele has to start 100% and I think Sanchez will be the unlucky one.

Why would you play both deeper when they are more effective scoring goals and assisting?
