The trouble being he tends to dribble up the pitch leaving a hole and an unprotected defence.
Instruct him not to? Having him sit in front of the back four, laying off passes to the full backs and other CMs seems like a good way of getting more game time out of him without having him busting his balls running from box to box all game.

We would be mad to go into a game against Watford with their lumps like Deeney etc, without Dier.
I think he does a hell of a lot of grungy work that he never gets credit for - interceptions outside the box and clearing corners with his head etc. The great strength that he gives us is his ability to switch between another centre half when needed, and a normal defensive midfielder in front of a back four. He will never be an Eriksen but his passing is not too shabby either.
One of those players you only really miss when he is not there - especially away from home.

Lloris
Tripper(if fit/Aurier), Toby, Verts, Davies
Dembele, Dier
Eriksen, Alli, Moura
Kane

Hopefully big Vic will be back soon and we can give Dembele a rest, so he is fit to do his stuff in the big games.

Aye, same team as tonight.

Although, half tempted to wrap Dembele up in cotton wool but he can rest over the International break.

Watford have a powerful midfield, with Dacoure etc, so best he plays.
Plus Watford have an inclination to get rough with a side's more skillful players. Witness Epoue's assault on Zaha last Sunday.

Its hard to know what approach to take with watford who are a big strong physical side. Do we match that or look to play our normal game? I can see us starting with 3 at the back but who misses out? Dembele on bench?

I’d be tempted. Given his previous injuries we need to use him judiciously not just automatically include him if he played well in the previous game.

I'm guessing we're gonna start with a back three for this one, and perhaps you'll see Dele or Moura given a rest. No reason to sit Moussa, as it'll be a week between games, and then he'll have two weeks off:

Lloris

Toby - Davinson - Jan

Trips - Eriksen - Dier - Dembele - Davies

Moura
Kane

Subs: Dele, Winks, Wanyama, Rose, Aurier, Llorente

wished we had known about the stadium before this game. at Wembley on a bigger pitch without their whinging "he touched him it's a foul" crowd (a bit like Everton away), and their 11 thugs (like playing the old Wimbledon).

I think we should change the XI from the other night, Davies for Rose (not sure if he will ever be the same again), Sanchez instead of Dembele. We need Dembele for Liverpool, and don't know if he will play for Belgium yet. Dier might of not had his best game v Man U, but this will be about muscling our way through this game. if this had been at Wembley I'd expect them to set up defensive against us, but at their gaff I expect them to try and over power us, very aggressive.

Lloris

Toby
Sanchez
Jan

Trippier
Dier
Davies

Moura
Eriksen
Alli

Kane

I see where you're coming from, mate.

He's just not my cup of tea.

Still able to appreciate him at times and he's still yid (especially for that legendary chelsea performance).

Cheers buddy. Always a pleasure to exchange opinions with you. Even when we're not on the same page, you always answer with respect and consideration for my own differing opinion.

Thank you. (y)

Yeah but then you get to watch the much maligned Mr Dier step up & adopt his Bodyguard alter-ego, as he so enjoys when we play those Chavs in blue from Fulham.

I take it that was a reply to my line up and comment?

yep we will need to see him muscle them out. they don't exactly play pretty football. their main danger is Pereya, and between Trippier and Toby I would hope they can mark him out the game

Yeah it was in response to the possibility of them becoming physical (dirty). Thankfully, under Poch, our famous 'soft centre' is now very much a thing of the past. We no longer worry about such tactics because, if necessary, we'll just batter them in response.

I know I mentioned it in my original response, but that game against Chel$ki will remain in my memory for a very bloody long time. People literally hated it. We were called thugs by the very people that have spent years lambasting us for being too soft, easily bullied out of games.

That Chel$ki game made me feel proud. We didn't only stand up for ourselves, we gave as good as we got, with interest, and THAT is why the experts were taken aback.

Poch has given us not just belief & togetherness. He's given us toughness, both mentally and physically, and I fucking love it!
