So 1 win in about 13 or so isn't a problem? Of course it is and it's naive to suggest otherwise.

And it's not just the extra space, although that definitely plays it's part - we're naturally more conservative away from home with our pressing, for example, compared to the way we 'should' be at home - but there is also undoubtedly a mental hurdle for the players at Wembley. We've been so dominant elsewhere, at the Lane and on our travels, that t his is impossible to deny. There absolutely is a problem at Wembley and it's represented in our form there compared to our form elsewhere.

Why is everyone harping about only the size? It's the whole place, atmosphere etc. If it was just pitch size there would be no away game syndrome for any team

It's beyond mental that anyone could still possibly try to suggest that there isn't a problem with Wembley.

It's not the size, it's the shitty nature of the stadium, the crap acoustics and atmosphere, and the team's very obvious mental block when playing there.

It's crazy to suggest anything otherwise.

You're also forgetting the extra motivation it gives the opposition.

This is the key. When we play teams at Wembley it's like the England cricket team playing at Lords. Kids dream of playing there and it gives them a lift. Couple that with the fact that there is more space and the atmosphere is largely poor it's no surprise it presents a non straightforward task for us

If you had bothered to read the preceding posts you would have seen that I was answering a post that was actually arguing the size and dimensions of the pitch, that is why we were "harping on". If you are going to "harp on" about the atmosphere, then we as fans are part culpable as we have 90% of the crowd and should make it count (no pun intended) irrespective of where we are playing. Its just so easy to make excuses dont you think?

It's not just the atmosphere or just the pitch. It's everything a out the whole place being different to what you're used to. It takes a while to make a stadium a "home". We will struggle a lot at new WHL too due to everything being unfamiliar at first and it will take time for it to become a fortress like old WHL has been lately.

The club needs to think of ways to improve the atmosphere. One way would be trying to sell out the stadium by lowering the ticket prices (or raising the age for concession prices). You should be able to generate some atmosphere with 90,000 people in a stadium regardless of how bad the design/acoustics are.

Yes they have injuries but they are still a top top side mabye top 5 in Europe id say, certainly top 8. It will be so interesting to see how we fare against them since 3-4 years ago when we put our 2nd XI out against them in the Europa League with a CM2 of Mason and Carrol who got absolutely bossed. We also started Onomah, wimmer and Charlie that day, Trippier was half the player he is now and we had Son up top, we got sincerely spanked. I think they aren't quite as good as they were then + have one or 2 injuries and we are way way better both in terms of personnel, playing level as a team and experience as a team. They also had Abameyang Reus and Mykaterian on fire that year, for tomorrow's game they only have Abameyang.

It'll be a tough game and we all know how we are doing at Wembley at the moment but who knows if we win this it could kick off a good run of form at Wembley but if we draw or lose let's not blame Wembley because they are still one hell of a team, they drew away at Madrid last year to put into perspective how good they are. But I think on our day we are up there with most teams and at home we should be looking for minimum a draw.

Our team last time we played them:
Tottenham
  • 1Lloris
  • 16Trippier
  • 4Alderweireld
  • 27Wimmer
  • 33Davies
  • 8Mason
  • 28Carroll
  • Chadli
  • Eriksen
  • Onomah
  • Son
Possible now:
  • Lloris
  • Aurier(or a better version of Trippier)
  • Toby
  • Jan (better than wimmer)
  • Sanchez (more cover than before)
  • Davies (much improved and suits 5 at back)
  • Dier (upgrade on Carrol)
  • Dembele (Big upgrade on Mason)
  • Eriksen
  • Son
  • Kane (2x golden boot winner)
+ add to this bench options of: Sissoko, Llorente and Alli for the next game against them.

HUGE GAME, COYS.

I don't disagree, but you commented on a conversation which was specific to the pitch size. Next time the conversation or debate might be the size of the crowd, the lack of car parking space, the length of time to get to Wembley, the taste of the pies or it could be all of the above. On this occasion it was about the dimensions of the pitch

The one thing that seperates our torrid 2016 experience from today's scenario is the pool from which we can select the players. We no longer have those shaky players who will be eaten alive by Dortmund. Ex. Carrol, Wimmer,Onomah, Mason or Chadli. Only exception is Trippier but he has come up leaps and bounds after that day. Still, Aurier is 100% sure to start this match. Unless Poch doesn't go out and do illogical things like putting TOB at middle or put Dier back in defence, we will be fine

Which is exactly why I commented on why people are discussing pitch size specifically. I don't understand your objection. I wasn't trying to attack you, just pointing out to everyone that pitch size alone is not the sole issue. I don't see how my post was irrelevant in that regard. Anyway, hopefully with the number of games we will play at Wembley this season we will be able to make it a fortress quickly, unlike last season where we only played sporadically there in the European cups

Hi guys,

Using our algorithm we've come up with a starting XI we feel you'll use tonight. There's also a tool which allows you to pick your own and see stats on the players if you fancy having a go.

Predicted Spurs XI

Cheers,

I've been to enough England, Spurs and FA / League cup games at Wembley when it's sold out to know it's not about attendance. It just has poor a poor atmosphere. I'm not even sure it's due to the design or specific stadium acoustics, I just think that anything over 60k (possibly even 50k) is too big to have a good atmosphere. Sound gets lost between sections, every part of the stadium feels like its own little island rather than part of one pulsating whole

I would like to hear from people who have been at a match this year and have been at a CL match this year and how they think the atmosphere was and is now. I was only watching on TV but the atmosphere for the Chelsea game looked and sounded amazing! Maybe because we now have season ticket holders in the same areas the atmosphere will be just as great in the CL games? This would. It and could not be the case last year in the CL games.
