Agreed, I will be interested to hear what Poch has to say about Wimmer's absence. If it is just a minor knock and they didn't want to risk him in a friendly then I would expect a Dier/Waynama partnership in CM, but otherwise Winks has certainly earned a chance ahead of Mason.

Lloris
Walker - CCV - Alderweireld - Rose
Dier - Wanyama
Lamela - Alli - Eriksen
Kane

Wimmer and Jan havent played a minute in preseason and are returning from injuries. It would be a massive risk to start either of them. Dier is too good in midfield. That leaves CCV and, honestly, I think he's played well and deserves an opportunity. Rest of the team picks itself really, if it was at home then perhaps Janssen would start with Kane, they looked like they could certainly play together in the league on their brief appearance together today.

I will replace Walker with Tripper but basically that's the team

I'm not at all convinced CCV will be able to handle Lukaku. He's a big lad, but I wouldn't give him his PL debut against the most physically gifted striker in the league and possibly the world.

Lloris
Walker Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose
Dier Winks
Lamela Alli Eriksen
Kane

Vorm, Trippier, Wimmer, Wanyama, Onomah, Edwards, Janssen

Poch had expressed confidence that Jan might be fit for the first game before the first match in Australia so I put him in the XI. If he's not fit, then Wimmer. If neither are fit then CCV starts.

Since Mason, Chadli and Carroll are up for sale, Im not putting them in the 18 for now. If Onomah is not fit, then put Mason in for him.

Dier needs to start in midfield IMO as important part of our play.

If Vertonghen is fit he should start or another solution needs to be found.

Oh how I have missed a Team v .......... thread. Welcome back my friend.

Dier midfield with Wanyama all day long, with CCV in defence if the other pair are not available. The rest is clear as day.

Pre season has me very optimistic for the start of the season.

If Vertonghen not fit, I wouldn't be surprised if Poch goes for the same starting line-up as today. Or if he drops Dier back to partner Toby, with Wanyama coming in as holding centre mid. I'm less convinced he'll plump for Winks over Mason.

Most excited today by Janssen, who looks like he'll really add something to our armoury of last year, either with Kane or when latter is rested.

Got to be:

Lloris

Walker
Toby
Jan/Kev/CCV
Rose

Wanyama
Dier

Lamela
Alli
Eriksen

Kane

If Wanyama can't make the team when one of our first choice CM's is out I'm sure he'd be questioning it, and rightly so.

Goodison is a tough place to go anyway so off the ball we'll need to be right at it, and disciplined. They're a pretty physical side anyway.

Although a good prospect at 18, people willing for him to start v Everton are a tad optimistic IMO.

The amount of times he was caught out with the ball behind him today stands him out as a liability in our high line tactic.

I think we are on our way to a really strong squad. Hopefully Son is long at the Olympics, as I think others should play :D

My matchday squad:

Lloris, Vorm - Walker, Trippier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, CCV, Rose - Wanyama, Dier, Winks, Mason, Alli, Eriksen, Lamela, Onomah/Carroll - Janssen, Kane

Starting XI: Lloris - Walker, Toby, Dier, Rose - Wanyama, Winks - Eriksen, Lamela, Alli - Kane
With Janssen getting half an hour.

Guess we will see either Mason in for Winks or Dier pushing in midfield with Wimmer or even Jan returning.

Lloris-
-------------
Toby-------Wimmer----------

Walker-----Dier-------Rose---------

Wanyama--------

Lamela--Vince---Eriksen-.-----------
Kane

Vorm, Trippier, Verts, Mason, Winks, Onomah, Alli

Just see that as an attacking 4 before anyone shits themselves. Dier and Wanyama is pretty turgid so I would want extra threat up field with vince and kane both on, swapping there throughout.

Team picks itself really. If Wimmer is out, I reckon CCV will get the nod.

Would consider playing Kane as a 10. Moving Alli deeper if it comes to it.
