I don't believe Levy is going to spend in January but if I had £50M burning a hole in my pocket and actually had to spend it on someone who would improve our title chances i'd go for Mario Lemina who has been an absolutely brilliant signing for Southampton this season.

I'd also happily take Zaha or Sessegnon but I won't be getting my hopes up.

I thought it was England left back Ryan Bertrand that City were interested in, rather than attacking midfielder Nathan Redmond - especially as it's to cover an injured left back.
Other than that, I'd still be interested in Shaw. It's previously been suggested that money would be an issue, with the wages he's on at Man U. But if there's talk of a Southampton return, I don't think that can be the case. Whether he's a true option, I expect Poch would know better than anyone.
Yes mate. My bad, of course it's Bertrand. Funny thing being I'm sure I read Redmond in the article.

Either way, I still didn't spot the obvious mistake.

As we are going to compete in CL after the January window, and as long as we keep fighting about in the top 4 mix, I'd welcome one really decisive January purchase. One can hope that we would benefit from a squad free of injuries, but that seems to be unrealistic. I don't actually get fans ongoing obsession with Barkley as if it is a given that he will come in and really add to the squad. I won't moan and grumble if that deal does happen, but I can't help but fearing that we (fans) are putting too much faith in it working out.

I think his price will be determinedmore by who is interested in him than what Fulham want for him.

If a host of top clubs are in for him then a bidding war can begin and they'll get top dollar. If we're by far the best side then we can have more of a say in the price.

I don't believe Fulham are particularly wealthy so cannot afford to turn down a really high bid as they are not in the promotion chase this season but should be out of the relegation scrap.

Probably not a January signing though. .
I definitely don't think we are the only ones interested, they are likely to look at the 50 million we got for walker and think that he's worth the same money if not more.

Who would actually be available? It would have to be someone who'd be on a free in the summer, wouldn't it?

Barkley, obviously, but who else is there?

Me too but I think we have missed the boat with him. He signed a new contract in the summer out and palace would be demanding big money £50m plus imo, which I I doubt we would entertain
Would certainly be an expensive deal but I think worth it.

I think injuries is a (much) bigger issue regarding Shaw. And added onto that is Shaw's hefty salary (more than even Kane I believe). Unless he takes a pay cut and his injury "jinx" leaves him I have a hard time seeing him join Spurs this January or even next summer.
I rather go for Tierney or Sessegnon myself - neither of them will come cheap though.

I'd have Kovacic in a heartbeat. Would cover CM and 10. Looks like he's available and would be a fantastic option for us to make our midfield a bit more creative, especially v the bus parkers.

Can? I'm not seeing what he'd bring.
Under poch's wing i think he could become a player in the mould of Dier.

With Dembele/Alderviereld not going to last forever i think Can could be an astute signing in terms of overall long term squad/positional flexibilty.

I think Can is a smidge underrated, not coveted by Juventus and Man City just because he's almost available on a free :)

If we signed him tomorrow I dont see how he gets in our team. Would be a very expensive (wages) squad player imo. I feel bringing Onomah back next season would be a better move.

Straight into midfield alongside Winks as the holding player, not a role Onomah would take up?

Winks(Onomah), Dembeles succesor in the role of moving the ball forward, albeit in totally different styles.

Think Poch still see's Dier as the future CB alongside Sanchez, which leaves Wanyama as the only "proper" holding midfielder. With Alderwiereld, Verts and Dembele approaching or exceeding 30 need one eye on the future.

MF options - Wanyama, Can, Winks, Onomah, Sissoko, Dier(cover), Dembele(fitness?).

CB options - Verts, Sanchez, Alderwiereld, Dier, Can(cover), Wanyama(cover).

But you are probably right in terms of cost/timing, as its not like Jan/Toby/Dembele are all going to vaporise at the end of this season.

Barkley and Mahrez.

Is anyone else unable to read the article due to an Axa pop-up?

And a recall for VJ who scores 20 on the run in which along with Harry's 30 fires us to the title pipping City on goal difference.......

I still think Barkley could really become a player under Poch, for the likely price it's got to be worth the gamble. I can't see how he would be worse than Sissoko either.
