I may have missed it but with all the posts re Jol and Ramos I didn't see much about Chris Hughton.

He gave almost 30 years to Spurs (bar I think 3 years).

He was key part of the best consecutive league finishes and defensive records in the past 24 years.

He was a key player in trophy winning Spurs teams.

He deserves to have been well treated by Spurs.

But was he? I hope so.

Thank you Chris :clap::clap::clap: .:hello:

Decent player who played in a good team - jury is out on his coaching career.

I do not understand why you infer that he was no good as a coach.

On the basis that Venables, Ardiles, Francis, Graham, Hoddle Arnesen and Jol (and a few more) have worked with him at Spurs in the cut-throat football industry for so long, it speaks volumes of how highly thought of Chris Hughton is.

I wish him all the best

He's only ever coached professionally at Spurs full time. What I am implying is that whilst at Spurs he hasn't pulled up trees by association with those Managers you have quoted. His next stop, however, may give him an opportunity to step out of some shadows. Nothing sinister or heavier than that I'm afraid.

None of us really know how his coaching skills are so to criticise him, a long term servant for the club, is really out of order if u ask me!
We should give him our best wishes for the future and thank him for the many years he has spent at the club!!

Nice thread. I personally was having doubts about his coaching as our players simply weren't demonstrating their full potential (we've all seen glimpses from each of them) consistently, which Chrissy H has taken the blame for. Perhaps fairly. Perhaps not.

What is beyond doubt is his commitment and love for the club. It was very sad watching the game on Saturday and realising that as the subs came on no-one was there with a clipboard to give them last-minute instruction.

Nobody can fault his years of service with us as a player. As for his coaching, he was around for so long, with so many managers that if there were any deficiencies in his abilities, the onus is solely on the club to identify them and take the appropriate action. I have to assume he's at least competent, and every fan should wish him the best of luck in whatever managerial stint is next for him in the Fizzy Pop Lge (hopefully and not lower).

He was involved with Ireland to - in a coaching capacity, yes?

EDIT: Ah, I see you've neatly caveated yourself with 'full time'. Lousy Jag man. *shakes fist*

As a player I watched from the terraces. he never set the world alight but was a dependable 100% effort every game player with a modicum of flair. The sort of player that good sides always have. To blame him in any shape or form for any deficencies in our current first team is ridiculous as he would surely only ever have followed the direction of the senior coach/manager.

I have no doubt that he will be in a job pretty soon. (Eire ?) Hope so.

Yeah well done for the service Chris ... an all that (although I guess with the salary it hasn't been the hardest chore).
My only caution before offering too much praise is: The only constant throughout our dire recent history or underachievement has been Chris H :-|

Decent enough player, nay club legend as a player.

But as a coach his credentials are questionable. Throughout some torrid times he was a coach and although the head coach/manager always lost their job, he somehow remained. Perhaps he was the common denominator and he probably should have left long before he did.

Probably because his son Kian was playing.

But yes, he is Spurs through and through and deserves the praise he has received in this thread.
