Meant to type this at the time but didnt get round to it. Went to the Astereas game and 1882 were top notch. Stadium was emptiest Ive seen for a long time but definitely the loudest. Some people still dont' appreciate it. I had 3 moany guys behind me and one goes 'seems like Park Lane are noisy tonight' like it was bad thing. Guess you had to hear it, but anyway was good to see. Need to get 1882 blocks in Prem games away from Park Lane. They generally make the most noise so to get a group away from them would create more noise.

1882 isn't just about singing. It's also about appealing to fans who appreciate atmosphere who can't always afford the more expensive games. That's why they do youth and early Europa/League Cup games.

I'd been to nearly all the 1882 games up until this season (for purely personal reasons) and the beauty of it is that you go, you see some familiar faces, you sing to get the crowd going and it's an all round good time and not too expensive either. I'm hoping to go 1882 again before the season is out.

Yes, it would be nice to have the same group during PL games, but the reality is that it means calling for fans, often young fans, to spend £40-60 out to go, and that's a barrier. It's also against he idea of going back to the old days of football that 1882 promotes.

Can't understand the people who are against 1882, I'm completely shocked there even are those who oppose it. Genuinely can't think of any possible reason for people to dislike it, 'fake' atmosphere just doesn't even make sense imo

What are your views on pressing the club to get them to start discussions about the seat allocation of the new ground? I have spoken to a few people within the club about taking on board some ideas, and they seem pretty receptive however I think it needs a bit of momentum and a little bit more weight, in terms of fan numbers (I don't know if their response are genuine or just lip service).

It seems a no brainer to do the following; both from a clubs perspective and a fans perspective. Please note I'm not part of 1882 but I do have serious reservations about the atmosphere and I think this is a way of improving it and also making the club a friendlier place to visit. Currently it seems that the vocal, and often aggressive minority, are heard and the implementation of the family stand and the dispersal of fans, along with sitting, really isn't conducive to the ideals the club were trying to implement, in fact I think it's caused the opposite with the current arrangement causing the moaning, swearing and negative atmosphere to be more noticeable.

I think having a section that sings and is encouraged to do so would help create a more pleasant atmosphere and would drown out the whinging and would create a buzz that the ground lacks presently.

Initially I put forward the ideas to the club but now I am trying to understand what they are planning to do, and I want better engagement, hence this post. I want the club to sit down with some select people and listen to their ideas as I think this will help seize a good opportunity that many clubs with new stadiums have missed (Arsenal must be kicking themselves).

Ultimately for me the main issue is the dispersal of people willing to sing, in conjunction with the most likely demographic group to sing being priced out of the stadium (or visit too infrequently). This has been compounded over the years with season ticket holders gaining a strong hold in certain sections and either passing them round to a group or staying where they always have and getting older, and in most cases grumpier and less vocal. These people are entrenched within the stand (they see it as theirs) and therefore it's very difficult to get an area singing, particularly if the main culprits are of the negative type and this emanates throughout the section.

So to me the answer is quite obvious; I have said to the club that prior to allocating seats in the new ground they need to free up a section (or two - see below) to ensure that they have complete control over this area. What i think they can do is give certain groups booking privileges or sell tickets through a different line, and control this, it could be managed by requiring membership to groups such as 1882. Perhaps ST holders and members could have the option to easily transfer their seats on a game by game basis to this section/s.

I'm not suggesting the stand is used solely for 1882 but it should be promoted as a singing section and they could potentially work with groups such as the 1882 to offer tickets or even keep within the existing process. Regardless it should be a place where singing is actively encouraged and even this could be where the drummer "lives" (and wouldn't cause any grumpy fuckers to take um-bridge with the noise).

I think it's vital that the club don't allow people to see these as "their" seats, so they simply cannot allow ST holders the chance to throw their towel down as that would result in square one. That's why it's important we start these discussions now.

Further more the idea give the club more flexibility to monitor promotions and could do whatever they liked with the seats, they could even allocate them corporately. It seems to make sense from both angles and I am sure the club would benefit from this flexibility.

So as I said this needs discussing now, and if people agree we need to engage with the club to gauge their support (they've already indicated they do support this to me) but also how many sections should be allocated (just the 1 or 2?) and how many seats within each section? However I do not think this should be done via the power hungry supporters trust, just with people who have a genuine interest and thirst for making the atmosphere better and more family friendly.

As the 1882 have a good amount of experience, I think they would be a good conduit to help these discussions.

@Nocando

I think the problem is that as great as movements like 1882 are, they aren't quite the movement that we would hope they are. Now what I mean by that is that our support is becoming so dire that I think movements like 1882 help to cut across that....and long may 1882 and other groups continue to do that...but I don't think it is the foundations of a singing section. Why? Firstly because that's not what 1882 are about because they want to appeal to grass roots and younger fans who can't afford the big PL games and, following on from that, secondly, a singing section needs the desire at the big home games. 1882 relies a great deal on younger fans and online fans. But really movements like that, or other methods, need to crack the crowd on PL days. I mean, you and I know what it used to be like when the Park Lane was properly in song. If a fan movement is going to try and restore that then it has to appeal to the money fans as well as the grass roots, and not just occasionally. That's where things get complicated.

If the club can take on board when movements like 1882 have done then credit to them. But I think that when it co,es to a singing area it'll come down to the Levy chequebook test. No more, no less.

Thanks. Perhaps I disagree a little in that I personally think the likes of 1882 could be the thrust that the home crowd needs. Hence trying to find a way to crow bar them in. I appreciate that may not be what they are about but thats why I think the singing section (and btw I hate that term) should be a ground / club thing and not a soley 1882 associated thing.

You're right about the levy cheque book test but that shouldn't stop engagement with the club. I personally think the idea gives him more flexibility and potentially a better return (merchandise etc). Yes part of the difficulties will be about making prices affordable si there may be some lost revenue, however we cant assume it will be sold out week after week. Because if that doesn't turn out to be the case we end up losing a great opportunity.

Id be interested to know the views of anyone involved in the running of 1882.

What happened in the end with Eatson he was AKQAYID wasn't he? I remember him posting ITK did he get exposed as BS or did he just get a few things wrong? I hate it when these people start a campaign without having majority backing and think they are speaking for everyone...

I've enjoyed what 1882 try to do but it needs far wider appeal. The atmosphere in the stadium has got wores over the past 3 or 4 years.

Follow @LoveTheShirt as Jim said, and I'd also recommend keeping an eye on The Fighting Cock forum.

Currently no games lined up, but those are the places you will find out about any.

The main one this season will be Liverpool U21s at the Lane in April (I think). The game is live on Sky and I know the guys are going to try and push it hard to get a good turn out.

Loving the podcast too - I don't go to games, but if you do; you really should be giving these guys your support.
