Great thread, anyone other than Ceballos and Fredericks (if they don't go on loan) that we could expect to see make a breakthrough?

Milos Veljkovic is almost nailed on IMO.

Its possible that Alex McQueen and Dominic Ball MAY get some EL minutes to see if they can cope at that level - especially if we remain short of defenders. But I'm not sure if they are outstanding enough for our first team, even if they are decent players as the standard required is so high now.We probably have enough quality in the forward positions that the likes of Lameiras, McEvoy, Colthirst and Coulibaly will need to make a huge step up on last season's performances to get a chance this season, unfortuately

I'm hoping that Connor Ogolvie and Nathan Oduwa get some minutes this season, but next season (15/16) is more likely to be their breakthrough season - and a busy season foir youth breaking through as we have 5 or 6 genuine contenders in that year group who might make the jump, But this season all those players may semply use the time to get established at u21 level with maybe a few Spurs X1 appearances thrown in both this pre-season and next pre-season.

ITK says that there wre 7 or 8 triallists involved in the recent Spurs X1 freindly v Southend - so logically we may have a couple/few extra players to add to the squads listed on page 1.

Still waiting for OS youth pages to be updated - although those who have left have now been removed - which mioght be the first time we will know if we've signed any of the triallists, and also to confirm the new Academy Year 1 intake. Many other PL clubs have already done that, but Spurs.....!

Ive been raving about oduwa, onomah and akindayini for years but im even more excited about maghoma. Long way to go but very impressive in both movement and positioning for his young age. IT still amazes me we cannot get an orthodox left back coming through and we desperetely need keepers.

Mcgee got recalled last season from harlow town to cover for injuries and now he is on the tour to america far too big a step for his development and too big a step based on his potential in my opinion.

The new staffing situation with the academy teams should be announced next week. (Hence why the friendly game t'other day was behind closed doors)

Can anyone enlighten me on Ugo Ehiogu's role at Spurs, I had no idea he was with us.

What led to us hiring him and what position does he hold now?

He started off a year or so ago doing some part-time coaching with the U16's, maybe even lower down the age groups than that. Since then it seems he has been given a bigger role, so is obviously impressing someone. At the moment he is still just a youth coach (I think) but this could all be set to change as we have to sort out the vacancies left in the U21's/U18's caused by some of the coaching losses over the last year and he might get promoted.

Others may know more than this though and be able to give a better answer.

Nice stuff on ugo there mate. He has indeed been given a big promotion. Started out with doing his badges with us, then on a part time contract and went from there.

it is strange because I remember moaning he was rotting away as a youth coach earlier this year (some are really great and suit it though such as bradley allen) but ugo never showed any interest in our recent spate of vacancies.

We had a strange situation where we hired sherwoods mate paul brush as a caretaker for the under 21s and john mcdermott who should be the head of youth development and to oversee everything was coaching lower age groups.

Thankfully we should get back to a more rigid setup now.

That's a shame, the one time I watched him (against Liverpool in the nextgen) he was brilliant.
I thought Miles had left as well but there was no mention of him leaving in the squad update a few weeks ago (despite everyone else being mentioned) and is still listed on the website as a player, even after it was updated.

I think the better coaches should be in charge of the lower age groups in all honesty, I wouldn't say they are rotting away. You want them working with the kids and giving them the fundamental skills and working in the age groups where they learn the most of their footballing ability and that way you create better young players coming through.

I have read before (think Ajax was a specific example) that in certain countries it is seen as strange for a coach to want to gravitate towards the senior sides, they see the most important and challenging and rewarding jobs as coaching the juniors in the academy and this is where the best coaches should be.

The only ones who should be thinking of moving up and coaching the senior sides are the ones who show themselves to be really good tacticians.

Jon Miles has left the club, fyi...

Jon Miles @milesy01 · May 23
Sad to leave the club after 13 years! But looking forward to a new challenge

I know, read that at the time. But when the club announced all the other Professional and Academy departures.....Miles was not included.

My guess is that Miles wanted to stay to continue training on some basis before finding another club.....and actually IMO Spurs are short on goalkeeepers with McGee covering the u21's (if Archer is covering first team), Voss and Glover covering the u18's - one injury and its a problem !! So from Spurs POV we need to recruit another youth GK, so there is an opportunity for Miles (who's not a bad GK, even if not quite good enough for us - which is why Vigoroux left yo join Liverpoool - not good enough for us but better than 'pooll have got at that age ).

If Miles leaves its likely another GK will be joining the u21 set up IMO.

If we get Vorm can Archer drop down?

http://tottenhamhotspur.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/ugo-ehiogu-new-head-of-football.html

Former England international Ugo Ehiogu is set to become Spurs new Head of Football Development, the former role of Tim Sherwood.

Despite the coommenator during the Seattle match suddenly blurting out that Ugo had a top development role at Spurs, I'd like to either see a club announcement on it or alternatively see what happens.

Ugio has been coaching part time at Spurs - at u15 and othe youth levels for a couple of years. I can quite believe that he's been taken on full time as an u21 coach - but its a further big step up to being Head of Development at Spurs. My guess is that the commentator was not properly briefed, but as I say we'll see.

With the loss of Inglethorpe and Ramsey (both very experienced coaches with perhaps a decade coaching at Spurs), I'd suggest we were short of experience and would want to recruit an experienced coach somewhere in the set up, the obvious pposition being u21 Head Coach, whi9ch would mean Ugo being no 2 coach at u21 level.

But as I say we'll need to wait and see..

NB. I forgot to mention that Peter Taylor took Chris Ramsey and Ugo Ehiogu with him as his backroom staff to the England u20 squad last year.
