If we get Vorm, IMO Archer could do with ,more experience out on lioan to a Championship club - he'll leaern nothing much more at u21 level !

Blackpool could be a decent option seeing as they don't actually have a goalkeeper.

But will a move to a side that's likely to ship goals by the bucketload and lose nearly every game be a good one? Even if it is at Championship level?

Why not, he'll get plenty of practice. Better than the ball being down the other end the whole 90 minutes.

I suppose. It's not necessarily as detrimental for a keeper as it is for an outfielder to be part of a shit team, as long as he does make some saves to keep his own confidence from dropping.

Ive been raving about oduwa, onomah and akindayini for years but im even more excited about maghoma. Long way to go but very impressive in both movement and positioning for his young age. IT still amazes me we cannot get an orthodox left back coming through and we desperetely need keepers.

Mcgee got recalled last season from harlow town to cover for injuries and now he is on the tour to america far too big a step for his development and too big a step based on his potential in my opinion.

The new staffing situation with the academy teams should be announced next week. (Hence why the friendly game t'other day was behind closed doors)

Last year's Academy Year 2 have a lot of very good players in that squad, and from the year below not only Onomah but Walker-Peters and probably Harrisson catch the eye, and in the new Academy Year1 both Maghoma and Carter-Vickers look great CB's. So lots of good players cominmg through - although we are short of quality defenders a the older levels.

But the LB position has been a funny one - I thoiught we were goimg to sign the 17 year old Ecuadorian (?) we had on loan a couple of years ago but that went nowhere. Of the current youth players I really like Connor Ogilvie as a CB/LB who has everything defensively, but may not be fast enough to be a LB at the highest level (like Jan is not for example) and whilst I've seen both Gomelt and Ward play that position quite well, I'm not sure they are good enough there. So of the current players, much of hopes may lie on Joe Muscatt who is joining the new Acdemy Year 1 - so maybe one of the triallists in the Southend game will prove to be a decent LB !

Goalkeeping, I think we are probably ok, provided Archer makes it. After that I'd suggest that McGee, Voss, Glover and Whiteman are all decent prospects, but until they are a little older its difficult to be sure. Even Miles is decent - not good enough for Sours first team - but a decent option for us at u21 level

I have just noticed Ceballos turns 22 in December which means he needs to be registered in the 25 man squad. He has been with us 36 months, but he spent around 9 months out on loan in Portugal last season, so does this mean that he wouldn't count as HG until April?

What about Alfie Whiteman and Marcus Edwards?

I think both will play in the u16 squad this season - but both likely to make their debuts for the u18's this season, Whiteman has been on the bench for the u18's once or twice last season but not actually played

Really looking forward to seeing Marcus Edwards in the U18s this year. Only say bits and pieces of him last season (England highlights mainly!) but always looked supremely talented.

Interesting that LLM rates Akindayini, I, and other I speak to have never really been that enamoured with him, indeed last season I think Harrison outshone him when he came into the u18s.

On another note, I'm really looking forward to seeing how our youth progresses from here, and the integration that may happen with the first team, we're hearing all the right sounds, they just need to follow through.

So with that said, I'd be interesting in hearing who you fine fella's want to see more of this season, in and around the first team. I think it goes without saying Kane and bentaleb will be getting games as they are now established first teamers, Carroll too probably. I'd love to see Mason given a proper go if he can stay fit, he has undoubted ability, and our loan system has failed him more than most. Also, though he's not a youngster, I'd like to see falque given an opportunity to show what he can do. Other than that, I think we'll see the odd EL/LC game given to veljkovic, winks, ceballos/mccevoy etc, but too early for regular first team involvement. I do hope we continue giving the top youngsters opportunities to train with the seniors on a regular basis though.

He will never qualify as HG - the essence of the rule is to spend 3 years (without loans) at the club before age 21 (some small print in the rule)

Akindayini score lots of goals he was top scorer amongst the youth last season, but doesn't provide that many assists or much hold up play Harrisson holds the ball up and creates more plus scores a fair few goals. I'd agree that Harrison looked good last season and I think he will be the main u18 striker this season so we'll be able to judge him over he full season - but I'd agree he looks a better prospect than Akindayini but there's room for both of them.

I'm hoping to see a lot more youth involvement under Poch than before, but its got to be on the basis that they earn their chance as we have too many to give first team chances to all. The pre-season matches will sort out who does get chances - and also whether we reduce down the size of our bloated squad so that there is space for the kids to play. I was pleased to see Carroll, Mason, Fredericks, Ceballos and Veljkovic getting game time v Seattle and hope they all get another chance v Toronto (where they will play on grass rather than an artificial pitch) - all are capable of making it into the first team squad, but I doubt all will - and maybe one or two will be lloaned out. Kane and Bentaleb I am sure will be regarded as first team material after last season.

Thereafter, the likes of Ball and McQueen may get game time in domestic cups or EL if we are short of defenders, but I can't see any of the others getting game time - except the boys from last season's Academy Year 2 who are young but look very good, however more likely they will start to play in next pre-season.

Problem with Falque is that he's 24, so he's either good enough to play PL games now or he's not, and he will require a spot in the 25 man squad. IMO I think he will need to move on. Ceballos again will require a squad place - but at almost 22 may have shown that he could potentially be very good. But lets see how he performs in the next few games efore coming to a conclusion.

Does a player have to be registered in the 25 to be fit in the HG rule? Like if we sell Lennon, Daws, etc and keep the likes of falque/ceballos, could we add some youngsters to make up for the HG rule?

I really like to see Ceballos given a few games early in the season to see whether we can save some money on a wide midfielder.

Only players in the 25 man squad count as home grown.

There's no point in using a youth player to fill the home grown quota.
Reason being that the player would be able to play whether registered in 25 man squad or not,
AND that we are not forced to have 25 man registered nor 8 home grown players.
If we're happy to have 24 man squad with 7 home grown players then we're allowed to.

Shit we could a do swindon 2.0 with blackpool atm
I think this too. Could get 4 players there playing week in week out, as long as we tell the kids we're not looking at Blackpool's results, just their performances and the grit they show in a difficult situation.
