I just find it so unsettling mcghee being with the first team. Now it is not unusual for players to train/travel with first team winks and veljkovic have being doing it for ages but I really do not think you should reward average young players, mcgee is a talent but not deserved of a place in my opinion. I think it could stifle his development if he had to play. (I know its only friendlies)

At 18 I think McGee was just taken along for aclimatisation rather than any thoughts of him playimng. GK's mature later than outfield players so at age 18 I'm surprised you've been able to categorise him so emphatically. Certainly he has it all to do - Spurs u21's this coming season etc and he may not succeed there (but he might also), but there are currently no other GK's between Archer (on the fringes og the first tream squad) and McGee (except Miles who we thought might leave) so no surprise to me he taken to aclimatise

Why do you not think he's any good ?

Development squad playing in a tournament in France this week. National Under-21 Tournament
Details Here
Will be a good test for them - Spurs sending a young squad.

Our travelling squad is likely to include: Harry Voss, Tom Glover, Dominic Ball, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alex McQueen, Kyle Walker-Peters, Ruben Lameiras, Filip Lesniak, Aaron McEneff, Kenny McEvoy, Will Miller, Nathan Oduwa, Josh Onomah, Emmanuel Sonupe, Harry Winks, Daniel Akindayini, Shaq Coulthirst, Jon Obika.

Pretty much all the Development squad for next season listed other than those away with the first team, except Connor Ogilvie (so no clue who will play LB !), Souleymane Coulibaly and Tomislav Gomelt. Wonder if they will be joined be any of the triallists who played foir the Spurs X1 the other day v Southend ?

Some of these players could also be in action the following weekend - but only a few as the u19 squad will be mainly filled by Academy lads (last years Academy Year 2 and this tears Academy Year 2)

Saw some ITK regarding fredricks , saying he was not for sale and was needed for the 1st team squad. Not having seen much of him myself would he be ready to be back up to walker is Naughton was sold?

I'm assuming we'll see some new lads, like Azzaoui in with the u19's

Several rumours that he'll be loaned to a Championsip Club, but nothing that concrete at present

Very inexperienced so would be a big risk to be the main back up to Walker at RB.

Squad probably mainly last seasons Academy Year 2 + this years Academy year 2 plus a few players such as CB Carter-Vickers and/or Maghoma where we ae weak in certain positions. Plus a few players such as Azzaoui (who appeared in a previous u19 tournament a couple of months ago plus possibly Yahays - but lets wait and see for the squad list

Really there was no choice but to take him... Lloris on his holidays, Vorm too, Archer picked up a knock I presume(?)... We couldn't just travel with Friedel.

Is it just me or is it about time our youth teams started winning some trophies? I know in the end it's not hugely important. But it could help attract new signings and also give the players a taste.
We've done very well in the domestic competitions recently. The overseas tournaments we've been to in the last year we have performed well at, but ultimately the foreign teams are just so much better than anything produced in England. If we ever get to a point where we begin winning those competitions, we are very well set.

Also worth nothing that most the overseas tournaments are run as U19 competitions. In England we play as an U18 team. This means when we go to these tournaments, we're either bringing in 19 year olds who won't be as familiar with the team, or we're going with a very young squad. Neither conducive to winning trophies.

Regarding mcgee i think he is talented I went to watch him play for harlow town last season (purposely just to watch him) as I wanted to see how he reacted with proper football.

He did really well although let in a few in a team that were at the time the best in the division.

For his development though I would rather he was with his own age group. I dont like to see kids pulled out of their age group unless they have shown exceptional talent or due to an injury crisis. Mcgee was with the squad before archer developed his illness. I would not have minded if mcgee was flown out once archer had been diagnosed.

I did not mind Vigaroux getting special treatment for example he would train on the whl pitch at half time, as he came so late into football that he had to be treated differently with his development.

people must think im insane with my views but i really care about the youngsters development and it is the smallest details that make the biggest difference with their developments.

I think the recent battering of Feyenoord says as much as winning a tournament. We are very much on the right path.

I've been wondering this too. I'm thinking the likes of Yahaya, Linetty, Dussaut, Koffi and some other youngish players we've been linked to additionally. Most of those names did seem like a media flash in the pan though.

How good is our academy really in contrast to the others around Europe? Are we widely respected and invited to these tournaments because other academies want to test themselves against us?

We generally do alright In the European comps, just think back to nextgen. We are definitely one of the best, if not the best in England. Where we really are outshone though is when we come up against Brazilian youth teams. They are always extremely well coached and play some outstanding football.

Peterborough just announced loan signing of Kenny Mcevoy. Will be interesting to see how he does, would expect him to be an asset to a league one team, though not a great league for wingers...

The answer is we are doing pretty well. The whole academy had a total revamp maybe 10 years ago, but its a long term process to recruit good kids (often at age 10 or even 8 with others joining later) so the first fruits of the new set up are probably Caulker and Townsend.

We do reasonbly in overseas competititions - despite handicapping ourselves by regularly sending squads a year or more younger than the rules allow - the idea being to developo the younger kids all the time. That means we don't usually win the competitions but we do get the kids playing - in the last u19 competition we thrashed Feyenoord (reckoned by many to have the best Academy in Netherlands - the Netherlands WC squad had 9 of its Academy graduates in it). We were also invited yo play in the NextGen competition - one of the most memorable matchres being to thrash Inter Milan 7-1, as another example.

So the Spurs Academy is good - but that doesn't mean that i cannot be improved - and may well give us 2 graduates a season who can join the First Team squad, of which one may only stay a couple of years beforee we workl out that he is ot a 'top 4' player and we sell him onto another PL club - getting the funds to maintain the Acdemy for a year or two.

v Inter Milan - yes

Tomislav Gomelt made his debut scoring a hatrick in 38 minutes before being sent off (probably a bit harshly) in 39 th minute with the score I think at 6-0. Gomelt and Pritchard were playing at AM's and with constantly changing wings, Spurs wre virtually unplayable, and Inter Milan were playing (or not) like statues all over the pitch. As a potscript - Inter Milan were so shaken up by this match, that they went into intensibve training...and went oin to win the NextGen Tournament. So quite something to thrash the tournament winners 7-1, and if Gomelt hadn't been sent off, a win maybe into double figures.
