I really don't think banning bananas from grounds is a solution, it's an isolated incident and i would be weary of jumping on the 'it's a racist incident' bandwagon.

I'd much rather they looked at this fully, i'm sure there is cctv which would show whether a kid ate the banana which should clear the guy of being labelled a racist.

He's going to pay enough with a life time ban for throwing a missile, i don't think it's be fair to go the rest of his life being labelled a racist for an incident that is more likely frustration, anger and a moment of stupidity.

I'm sorry but this is getting ridiculous. If the Banana was brought into the stadium by a parent for his child to eat then WTF is wrong with that? You can't ban the eating of bananas by children because a tiny minority of racist scumbags think throwing them at black players makes them look anything other than total racist ****s.

Edit: The bit in bold excludes any and all Milwall parents and their children. :shifty:

If you're going to bring any fruit bring an orange it's easier to throw with purpose and will do more damage.Bananas and football have a bad history lets just have a total fruit ban at games and be done with any racist accusations going forward. Lets leave racism where it belongs in the past or attached to Chelsea FC not Tottenham.
But mangos...

One of the heads of Uefa have come out and said this is a ‘disaster’ and racism will not be tolerated.

Unless of course it’s a crowd of 40k people making monkey chants at a young black English footballer, in which case it’s either acceptable or a £500 fine.

Fucking hypocritical wankers.

As for this incident, taking the explanation at face value then the guy should be banned for a long time anyway for chucking anything at a player, but it is certainly a possibility that he didn’t mean it to be a racist gesture. That being said, if it a) had hit Bellerin on the face and b) had been a bowling ball instead of a banana, then it wouldn’t have been the worst thing in the world.

Not saying this was or wasnt a racially motivated act but suggesting there was no racist intent because it was just the skin and not a full banana is possibly the biggest load of bollocks I've heard in a while.

When Adebayor scored for City and ran the length of the field to celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans, someone threw their bag of sandwiches onto the pitch. People do odd things when they are mad. Whatever is at hand.

Often it is lighters, batteries and coins. Lighters and coins are usually in your pocket, but a loose battery? I'd say that's brought in with intent. A banana skin is probably not brought in with the intent; it is just left over from eating it. The bag of sandwiches was probably for their journey home. Throwing anything is silly, given the consequences.

I think Dele was hit by a plastic bottle after Dier's goal, too.. doesn't seem to have received much coverage.

I'm voting for 'don't give your kid a banana, in case of opportunistic racists, that have come unequipped' as the stupidest viewpoint to come out this thread.

Despite him not being racist, you'll know full well not to throw a banana onto a football pitch, there's too much of a strong connotation.

Too many oversensitive people on here, man has explained his view point but too many want to believe the press rather than take him on his word. lets not turn this into bananagate and understand that it was in heightened frustration, not right, but its done and so is he. Can someone now please give me some ITK on something other than fyffes.

Having gone through the 70's and 8o's..having bricks darts assorted coinage pigs heads and a petrol bomb flash past me on the shelf (thrown by a well known goon).. Heard all the monkey chants.. Hissing gas sounds etc etc and lived through it with many a tale to tell mostly with smiles I find this whole banana gate stuff complete bollocks (waits for the neanderthal old **** stuff to hit)
If the fella wasn't Cypriot and full blown white football going man I can imagine his whole life being investigated. We played them ffs.. There players where taking the piss and passions went a little to far.. Its not exactly boca v river plate.. A foolish act by an otherwise possible reasonable sensible bloke.

Btw i was in the cage the day that molotov was thrown at us , lucky for us it hit the top rail and fell into the empty stand below.

Funny how not much coverage of his side of the story on tv or radio.....

Bananas are radioactive so it's kind of a war crime.

But it would eventually decompose into the grass turf and be good for the pitch’s health, so we were actually inadvertently helping the gooners being the nice eco-friendly fans we are. :)

This was pretty much my thoughts on the matter so I’m not surprised that it turns out I was correct; I’m a genius.

Seeing as the police and the club believe this banana hurler, where are the bans for the dozen or so arsenal fans who chucked their bottles of sauvignon blanc and prawn sandwich packets at the spurs players (and their own players lol) during the melee?
