If Spurs do offload half a squad load of first team players, we will get relegated. No team can cope with that amount of dismantling and then replacements looking to find their feet in our culture. Relegation I tells thee.
With the squad size restrictions we're going to have to off load a fair few players to be able to make signings and still comply

A large clear out isn't actually the same as offloading half the squad because many players techinically on our books are not part of our squad and do not figure in our plans in any way.

Bentley, Bassong, Corluka and Jenas do not factor in our squad plans at all and all well be loaned, sold or released

GDS, Niko and Rose really play only a very minor bit part role and are all equally likely to be sold and probably want out too

At least two of King, Gallas, Nelson and Saha will be released

Modric and Bale may both kick up a fuss to be sold

If Caulker is kept and the Belgian from Ajax signed perhaps even Dawson could be sold and Jermain Defoe is very likely to be sold too because he needs first team football and we can't offer him that.

We'd need to replace and upgrade less than half of those players really as so many do not feature at all, 3 first team signings and a couple of squad fillers would be enough to upgrade our squad if the bulk of these players are moved on as I suggest

Im more saying that that would be his current value to perspective buyers ... are you maybe suggesting that someone would pay 10m+ for him ... i certainly do not believe that anyone would. I know some of us are saying why would we sell him, but my personal opinion is that from a quality perspective we have moved beyond big Tom now and he would struggle to get anywhere near our first team even on form, still maybe a good squad player but not going to take us on

Thankfully Harry doesn't agree and he would easily be in our first team if he was fit and match ready(though he hasn't been in the last year and half), the only thing changed would be formation imo

I love how people underestimate his ability, last season(10/11) when we played Hudd in the league we only lost 2 matches and those were blackpool away and West ham at home and we had around 50 shots during those matches

I don't actually think Pienaar will be sold unless we get a very large offer, he could prove a very valuable option who can cover a few areas next year.

Especially if we have trimmed our squad a lot, we won't want to be relying on youngsters

I'd say Niko is more likely to go as Pienaar's contract means he'll hold value longer

So the plan is that we sell every back up we have? How do we then go about buying another 10 squad players considering we've sold half our squad very cheaply? Would only cost more money.

From my list, Rose, Defoe and Kranky aside, none of those players are either considered "first team players" as you suggest, or may I add, even in contention for the first team, 3 or 4 of them are loaned out. And I am of course making the assumption here that we would of course replace those that will leave a hole, (defoe, rose and kranky) with the large amount we recieve in ..

just out of interest, which one of Modric/Parker/Sandro would you drop to get Thudd in there? (as you can tell, i disagree with you here in a big way :))

Same as it is atm, one of Parker or Sandro, no one in our team has managed to switch play as quickly and efficiently as Hudd

Gomes - out of a contract + injured
Rose - at least 5mil + add on, but i would want him around.
Jenas/Bentley - i'll take whatever i can get!
Pienaar - I wouldn't mind keeping him around, but i think we bought him for some thing like 4M? so i don't think we will make that big a profit
Townsend - i'll send him out on loan again, decent player with potential

agreed up until there. was gonna give you a green tick but after your defoe comment im afraid you're going to get the brown box.

Is Corluka really no better than £2m, as I see from a few people? I'd be expecting £6m, if not more, if we did sell him.

Indeed, Levy doesn't make losses on transfers, plus he was a good RB for us, just unfortunate Walker has come on the scene. He is an international player and can cover several positions, I would expect around £5m for him tbh.

I'm pretty sure LEvy will make a loss on Bentley and what was the profit for the Rebrov deal again?

Bentley was always going to be a loss though if we shifted him, he was one of those transfers where we were the club that would pay his maximum value (media hype really got to him tbh). But Corluka still has several good years ahead of him, is versatile and is a regular international.

But the loss could have been offset had Levy cut his losses and accepted a reasonable fee, plus we would have saved in wages by getting shot of him earlier.

Same with GDS all well and good holding out for more money but the knock on effect was we failed to sell and his value decreased as well as us having to shell out more in wages to the player by keeping him on the books

Don't get me wrong I think Levy is a great chairman, but it seems to me on here he gets glorified as some type of immaculate leader who never makes mistakes when he makes his fair share I'd say

Agreed but I think Defoe should go because VDV is more of a threat and when we of swap the two we do seem to lose more of a threat and even this season Harry has chosen Saha at times over defoe

But were any clubs ever interested in taking Bentley?

Also didn't we have a huge offer for GDS last summer but he didn't want to go?

YEs so if true once it was established he wouldn't go to the club paying the bigger money we should have cut our losses and sold to the highest acceptable bidders as his value would only decrease and his wage would be an expense for the year

As for Bentley, I am sure if we were willing to accept a reasonable fee he could have been sold

check our squad lately? he's the only striker we got. Saha and Kane just ain't good enough.

better to bring in a couple of replacements (adebayor and leandro, aka blue and yellow would do nicely) before we let him leave.

@Adam. well we got 10.8m for Crouch and 8m for Palacios to Stoke 12 months ago and Wilson in particular was massively in decline. ..myabe you underestimate how difficult it is for clubs like Stoke, QPR and the other promoted clubs to attract decent players, they will always have to pay a premium

We paid Crouch and Palacios to leave though. They received part of the transfer fee to go to Stoke for lesser wages. I absolutely guarantee that this happened.
