The fa along with the home office set the criteria for the work visas for non eu players. With brexit what the fa are saying is that new eu players will have to meet the same criteria as non eu players do now. The fa are willing to scrap the criteria for a work permit for any foreign player if teams drop the amount of non homegrown players in their squad from 17 to 12.

Can't help but feel that like with the 3rd party owenership rule, all we're doing is tying arms behind our backs to fight with the European teams.

This sums up everything wrong with Brexit. We'd finally got to the point where our young players had got brave enough to start going out to play in other leagues, to learn other ways of thinking and expand their horizons. This would have benefited the national game far more than forcing PL clubs to pay more just to stockpile English squad players.

As things often seem to be these days, the whole thing is the wrong way round.

Everything? I think there's a lot more wrong with Brexit than just this.

Can you imagine it?

Brexiteers "We won, ner ner"
Remainers "You'll regret it"
Brexiteers "No we won't, we won, ner ner"
FA "You can now only have 40% of your squad made up of Foreign players, EU or not"
Everyone but Man City and Chelsea sell all their Foreign players but can't afford English "talent" - even from League one anymore.
Brexiteers "this is what we voted for, it was only Foreigners steeling jobs I couldn't ever do anyway, boooohoooo"
Remainers "ahem"

3rd party ownership rules are for all countries. We brought it in first with tavez etc... but fifa changed their rules aswell.

Understand where you are coming from though.

I didn't know that. Best thing for it, it always sounded shady and really was a handicap for us.
West Ham should have been relegated over Tevez and Masch.
