The old thread was locked after a couple of chaps decided to fight it out with claw hammers. So, does anyone else still see him as the next best option if all the rumours about van Gaal come true?

I think it is probably going to be someone like him, Pochettino etc. A young manager who has shown some potential that we have to take a punt on somewhat. We aren't going to get a proven name.

de Boer isn't unproven though, lots of champions league experience, previously managed Eriksen and Vertonghen and won pretty much everything worth winning as a player

Why would he not be a worth taking a chance on?

Big name who would demand respect?...yes

Managed a big club with success? ..yes

Plays a system that would suit our squad?..yes

Speaks fluent english?..yes

What the fuck do we want?

Nothing is 100%...but i would not be against him, infact he is someone i would welcome for sure.

He's been at the one club, which has an established structure and clear understanding of what they are doing, and one that he has spent a large part of his life at and knows inside out. It's also a smaller league and less competition. I'd say there were still some question marks. My point was we will have to get a manager with certain 'question marks' against their name.

I would be fine with his appointment though.

I don't think he'd come to us personally. Stay with Ajax, Ok a smaller pond but compete for titles and in the CL every season or deal with turmoil off the pitch and utterly unrealistic demands from everyone whilst doing it with a fraction of the resources of his competitors?

You'd have to hold him back from signing on the dotted line for us no doubt.

If he keeps on doing well he might even get the Barca gig in a couple of yrs etc etc.

Just said this in another thread: I know that LVG and FDB were the two Levy was looking at for next season, as recently as the end of March. Whether that has changed now or not for some reason I dunno. LVG is likely soon for United, so FDB might still be a genuine possibility.

I don't think our fans have enough patience to employ a manager like FdB.
Exactly. All he could realistically achieve by coming to us is slightly damage his blossoming reputation. Unless the planets align, which they won't, and we achieve something remarkable. The odds aren't great though.

I guess if DL makes it rain hard enough we could tempt him with a phat wage though.

I think it depends on his outlook. Ambition against realism. Maybe he would see a club like us as a stepping stone to the big time. Or he could stick with Ajax in the belief that he can take the step straight to the top eventually.

He'd be my first choice. Think he'd work well with the ex Ajax guys etc. Unfortunately we will end up with Sam Alladyce or summin.

To be honest our fans don't have enough patience to smell a fart, which is ironic because we've not really been that successful over the last few decades.

I couldn't give a shit who we appoint, it's going to end the same way as it always does and all we're going to be left with are the same dickheads who complain regardless.

I think sticking with, and achieving success with Ajax is the way better option for upward mobility.

I know football is generally crazy but I truly think our reputation has taken a massive hit. Any younger manager showing promise with genuine options or already at a pretty good club like Ajax would need their fucking head examining if they choose to come to us and on a hiding to nothing.

Which is a why a 'been there, done that, slapped the pope in the face' nutter like LVG was so attractive. His reputation would be unblemished by not achieving the near impossible with us.
