Can't see a thread for it. Opening ceremony completed. Not bad. Was expecting more the way the host broadcaster has hyped it. Looking forward to the competition.

I have tickets to the Rugby 7s next Saturday. $30, no complaints. Quite like GC.

Must have been confusing for overseas audiences to see a giant white whale as the centre piece. Hope it was explained for them. We went whale watching last year and it was great fun seeing them breach and swim right up to the boat.

They are a big part of our history. Not just hunting. Southern Wright give birth down here. Quite a sight. 7's should be great. Expecting a big haul from these games. Not up against the UK in these. Flat out battle with England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

One of the matches on our day is Aus vs Eng. Also Aus vs Samoa, Fiji vs Sri Lanka (ouch for SRI!), Scotland vs PNG (expecting hard hits from PNG), and the last one of the day is South Africa vs Scotland. Some decent games.

Always loved watching the Commonwealth Games. Tonight has boxing, cycling, hockey, squash, swimming and triathlon...I fear my ability to watch all this is going to involve a number of screens, cables, duct tape and a lot of caffeine.

Yeah really looking forward to competition. Sort of nice to compete without an American in sight!

Biased of course, but what a performance by the Aussie team pursuiters. Girls did great but wow, the lads breaking the world record held by a very strong team GB I believe. Awesome.

Impressive swim just now. A new WR from the Aussie women's relay team.

One of the best things about these Games is getting to hear Jerusalem whenever England win gold. Don't get why other English national teams insist on playing the British anthem.

Also, England has been impressive in the pool.

How bad are England's black basketball players if they can't beat a team of white Scotsmen?

Status Quo resumed in the pool tonight. Very impressive from the Aussies, but so many of our pet events. And another good night in the velodrome.
Was watching the basketball mens, Australia v Canada. Thought they might be some competition. Wrong. Beat them by 45 points without our NBA guys. White guys can jump!

Been catching up on the hockey. Good wins for both England teams, the Kiwis look strong after that beat down they gave the Scots, turns out watching India lose in hockey is as funny as watching them lose in cricket and we can add hockey to the list of sports that have managed to handle video technology better than football.

Been a good Games for the home nations so far. GB seems to be well set for the future in the gymnastics with the Scots and N.Irish lads impressing alongside the English core.

I think it's great that the para events are on at the same time, instead of a few weeks later when most of the media and crowds have moved on.

Its been fantastic to see. Particularly in the pool. The Track events have been great as well.
What I'm finding baffling is the drop in competitiveness of the Canadians. Whats going on there. I know the Aussies are dominating (on the back of a fantastic performance in the pool) but where are they? They really haven't turned up.

Totally agree. Hopefully, in future Games, they'll add more para events. It would not only be good for para-sports in this country but brilliant for such sports and athletes in smaller nations who don't get to be part of the Paralympics. It was fantastic to see a para-athlete from Vanuatu win a bronze.

I think the Canadians will be fine. Their strongest sports tend to be in the pool, gymnastics, athletics, and wrestling. They've done okay in the first two and we'll have to wait and see how they perform in the last two. That being said I can't see them hitting their target of 100 medals.
