Totally agree. Hopefully, in future Games, they'll add more para events. It would not only be good for para-sports in this country but brilliant for such sports and athletes in smaller nations who don't get to be part of the Paralympics. It was fantastic to see a para-athlete from Vanuatu win a bronze.

I think the Canadians will be fine. Their strongest sports tend to be in the pool, gymnastics, athletics, and wrestling. They've done okay in the first two and we'll have to wait and see how they perform in the last two. That being said I can't see them hitting their target of 100 medals.
A bit scued but a real good guide for the next olympics for us in the pool. Our biggest haul since Manchester (thorpe etc) but with para included. Thats what i was saying though with Canada. No threat in the pool. Really weird. Even athletics they really haven't been the force they should be till now. Really happy with where we sit for the next olympics in swimming. We might actually have a big meet.

Nope. Not happening. They are in a world of hurt.

I was flicking through the stations and landed on the women's pole vaulting ...

Cor blimey !

Them birds are as fit as a butchers dog.

Specially the Canadia Gold medal winner and the NZ silver medalist too.

Rugby 7s yesterday was good fun. The women's matches were far more competitive than the men's, which were very one sided. When Australia weren't playing, the crowd cheered for the underdog - Zambia, Sri Lanka and Uganda - and even booed NZ for taking the piss.

England looked good and did well against Australia in the pool game but they've just lost to NZ in the semis.

Gold Coast is so busy. Filled with journalists, coaches, athletes and fans from all over. They've put up stages and big screens all over the place, events and festivals to hang around at and watch the events. Good fun!

Well I never thought I'd be staying up until 5:30am to watch netball, but that match was amazing! Well done to the English girls.

Here's Dan Bibby going over for the try vs Samoa. Finished 33-0. Stadium looks empty but Australia played just before so a lot of the crowd left after that! We had decent seats. Saw a lot of tries scored!

And here's a pic of mine from the top of the Q1 Building, looking down at Surfer's Paradise.

The closing ceremony was crap. The TV network absolutely savaged it. They said they couldn't show some bits because the organisers and host broadcasters (which I thought was going to be Ch.7 here) wouldn't let them.

We missed the athletes arriving, the flag waving and the celebration part. Instead we were left with lame musical performances, long and self-indulgent speeches and the presenters said they had never seen a stadium so empty halfway through the ceremony.

Even the athletes left. They said how people had been complaining online and that they totally agreed, but it was not their choice at all. A real surprise that it was a) so bad and b) such an honest and brutal takedown of the show.

Yep. I saw a fair bit of it. What a disappointment. Total rubbish.

To see Basil at the end of it saying that Ch 7 had no say over it is baffling. Whoever was in charge of that rubbish needs lynching!
