What the hell is this ludicrous tournament? Little more than a FIFA-Blatter vanity project it seems to me. The tip-off is in the name - the competition's organising principle is the administrative regions of FIFA. Oh, the romance!

There's too much damn football, and for FIFA to be hastening the advent of a 50-week a year game is just bullshit.

Its a big thing in Germany . 3rd item on the main news 1-1 vs Chile . Many aren't entirely sure of the difference between the Confed and the Euros or World Cup . Its been sold as a big deal and the country is agog..

I don't see why it shouldn't get a bit of kudos it's a decent little tournament really, all the world's winners stacked up in a short format.

Germany v Chile was a decent game until the latter stages. Chile pressed like nutters for the first 45, Germany were lucky to end the first half all square, scoring with just about the first time they'd managed to get out of their half. Second half Chile ran out of puff a bit.

Which was my conclusion . The Germany match was certainly played at full blast . The only snag is , when do players get a rest ?

Just finished watching the Chile v Sam Allardyce Bolton game. How the fuck Australia finished with 11 men is anyone's guess. Or even 10.

They did work hard and press Chile well from the front but got their goal from a Bravo fuck up. Chile should ouf have scored more and should have had a pen. Although the aussies also wasted a couple of chances.

Don't understand why ITV and the fucking commentator had to keep giving out scores and the final score from the Germany game, completely spoilt it for me for later. Cocks.

Sorry BC. Got to pull you up for a couple of things.
Firstly, in what way were Australia playing like Bolton? Physicality? Yeah sure. Style of play? You must be dreaming or need to go to SpecSavers! In no way are we a long ball team.
Yes we put in some hard challenges and got the deserved yellows. None of the tackles were red card offences.
Bravo didn't fuck up. He played a pass from the back, we pressed, took the ball and took the chance with a lovely little dink over the rushing Bravo.
It was not a penalty. That was decided by both the on field ref and the video ref.
We had the better chances. Our inability to finish cost us the match.
Finally Matt Ryan is a great pickup for Brighton. I think he will do well in the Premiership. Oh and James Troisi would be a handy free transfer pickup for any mid table team. He ran the show last night.

Allardyce's Bolton played very similar, pressed hard and left a foot in with every single challenge, which is how Australia ended up with so many bookings (and should have had more). Cahill should have been straight red, he scissored the guy with both feet off the ground, and he should have been booked for persistent fouling before that. Allardyce's Bolton also played football at times (okocha, Djorkiev etc) but they got away with plenty of niggly shit.

Bravo did fuck up, he whacked the ball knee high at a player who already had someone up his arse. It was Lloris-esque stupidity. Nice dink finish though.

The first, Sanchez incident, wasn't a pen, the one almost immediately after, Vargas, was, but because they'd just reviewed one they didn't review that one.

If they had finished better, or converted their situations into chances, Chile could have also won the match.

I think the Ausies style will yield some results and I think there were times when Australia played some decent stuff, but you might find better refs in WC's won't be as lenient, and I personally don't enjoy watching teams try to kick the opposition to submission.

I guess we will agree to disagree with a few things BC. Timmys foul was bad, but not red. He took the ball with his front foot (yes raised studs but did not catch the man) but his trailing leg took him out. Yellow.
I must have missed the second claim. Will have to watch it again.
I guess we just play everything hard mate. It's the way we are. It's in our DNA. The convict in us maybe? :D
And i thought the Italian ref was very fair both ways, and let the match continue to move.
Overall pleased with our effort at the Cup bar our Germany match where we were diabolical.

We (Australia) played well, or at least much better than what we've been serving up lately. There's also nothing wrong with playing hard but fair. If it's unfair, you will get punished accordingly. It's a contact sport and a good wholesome game of football is much better than blokes acting like fairies or behaving like delicate geniuses. Having said that, I think the game was played in good spirits, perhaps you are just stereotyping Bus-Conductor.

Anyhow, we look much more stable with Milligan and Sainsbury at the back. I'd like to see Jedinak make up the back 3.

First action I've seen of this year's tournament. This game desperately needs a goal to spark it in to life.

Many a Man City fan will be scratching their heads wondering why Bravo can't do that for them.

Wasn't the best game, but I think Chile just about deserved it and are the better team to watch go about their business.

Claudio Bravo made as many saves in the penalty shootout against Portugal as in the Premier League in 2017 (3).

Anyone watching this? Good open game, Chile have opened up Germany constantly this half but find themselves behind.
