That right there was classic Emre Can. Rolling around over nothing and lying on the ball. THAT is why I've said repeatedly that I absolutely hate him. What a ****. Play the damn game the right way. No silly antics prolonging shit. Get the fuck up and play the game.
That was truly pathetic, especially when he grabbed it after they got it out from his legs

What part of the VAR process was at fault ? The problem is the referee's interpretation of what he sees via the system...not the actual footage itself. If the ref clearly (and I mean absolutely clearly) sees a player commit a red card offence on the screen and chooses to ignore it how is that the fault of the 'system' ??....How many of us watching would have totally approved of everything that ensued if he had reviewed the incident and then sent the guy off ??......just a thought.
The crowd have no clue what is going on?

How is that workable in a spectator sport?

All they knew was that the ref was slowly walking his way across the pitch to look at "something" ooh the excitement.

It's like Christmas but every present is shit.

No one knows what the ref looked at (one angle two all/none) what he was told that made him want/need to look at it himself.

We're told one non decision from an earlier game was due to no appeal by the players (but no appeal has led to a red card earlier in the tournament and a yellow today)

It's a mess lets face it.

Totally agree with you regarding the spectators viewpoint and that currently it's a mess. When the incident is reviewed the footage should be shown on the large monitors too so that everybody sees what happened. I would also like to see the referees having microphones so that their decisions are audibly explained to the fans...similar to rugby and American football.

Am I the only person that agrees with the yellow card? I understand people's call for red. But in the ref's defense the player places his arm in a position and doesn't 'throw' the elbow. This situation is very much like a player elbowing another during a header, contact is made, possibly vicious, but intent is hard to determine.

Now I know he intended everything that happened. I am not being naive. What I'm saying is it is consistent...and I have done the same thing protecting myself in a coming together at that angle.

It doesn't matter if there was intent or not.

It's clear dangerous play and the rules of the games say a red.

Basics.

EDIT: Saw more replays and for me I have been able to 'prove' intent. It was always a red for me but I agreed with the yellow due to lack of 'intent' in evidence, even though I know he intended it. It's red.

Was a certain red. The ref was inept.

As in the example I stated about headers it is not as simple as you state. Arms are often left out for leverage and protecting one's space. Because it happened to connect with is jaw doesn't change that. Your judging on the result of an action and that is where 'intent' comes in. This is why all of the headers where a layers takes an elbow in the neck or jaw don't result in reds.

But I always thought it was red but could see why he gave yellow as I stated in the post.

Nope.

Not having that. He's just watched a slow motion replay of it.

It's a red all day long and I'm flabbergasted why anyone would think otherwise.

Fifa probably sliding him some money to keep 11 players on each side...

The replays I saw were only from the side and Chile-goalside initially. During post-game they showed additional angle, including from the ref's view, which convinced me.

Additionally, nice to see the Chileans showing some class in wearing their medals while giving the guard to the victors. Not like the shitty Spain u21s.

There is a massive difference when it comes to using leverage when headering.

Why did he raise his arm in the way that he did? He didn't need to. It wasn't to shield either. It was outright dangerous and IMO deliberate although impossible to prove.

No, no it is not. It is the exact same act but in a different context. That is my point that you are missing. You are also missing that I thought he knew exactly what he was doing but evidence was lacking (from the replays i saw) to definitively give red. Thus I could agree with the awarding of yellow. And I stated this in the first post.

So why are you being so argumentative? We disagree(d) that is all. You don't have to see it my way...and my opinion had changed since I got more evidence not because of what anyone else's opinion of the incident.

Ref was a shithouse for not giving that red! Clear as day. He had a look at the video. No excuse!

Yes, argumentative. I made a simple opinion and supported it with a reasoned rationale. All the while knowing that it was not popular hence the explanation. A poster like @Krule totally disagreed with me (and probably thought I was a numpty for taking my stance) but clearly appreciated the 'friendly' way it was proffered. You have made 5+ post telling me my 'opinion' is wrong all the while missing or not addressing my point = argumentative. And then the outrage that I had the temerity to call it argumentative. And you end with a 'chill out brother'. Yeah, I would say it had an edge.
