Problem is they are trying to make people into what they want too quickly. Duckett, Jennings will never be test openers and Vince would be better at number 5 when the ball is a bit softer.

We've tried so many openers without realising that an Alistair Cook only comes around once in a generation, now he's on the wane we really are fucked.

Fucking Hales the ****, still pisses me off this white ball only decision. He could have ended up being our David Warner equivalent (sorry @Archibald&Crooks...)

I'm not sure Hales was getting the mood music from the selectors that he was in with much of a chance. Now he's playing in the IPL for life-changing money. Perhaps not a fair target for vitriol.

I think it's justified in the fact he is only playing white ball cricket for Notts. And he only got in to the IPL this year because of Warner's ban. Agree with you on the blame laying at the ECB's door as well, so for that I will call them ****s as well.

Who knows, as far as the batsmen go.

Agree with Leach, with him and Root we'd have options offering turn both ways.

Don't want to see us continuing with just all right arm medium-fast as an attack, though they almost certainly will and probably wont matter in English conditions. But I want to see more variety, proper pace/hostility and a left arm seamer. Different weapons and pose batsmen different problems.

Brilliant start to Ireland's Test cricket history. First ball, two fielders take out the Pakistani batsman in a double tackle. Excellent stuff.

I always thought cricket should have more rugby in it.

The ECB's chairman Colin Graves has had an absolute disaster of an interview with 5Live. In regard to paying compensation to counties for not hosting Tests, he said "No payments have been made to counties full stop. ... No payments have been promised. End of conversation" even though the compensation money is in Glamorgan's bank account. He's also said The Hundred format is "set in stone" despite ECB officials telling the players union last week that it was still only a concept and wasn't guaranteed to happen. Also, “The younger generation, whether you like it or not, are just not attracted to cricket” is probably something the chairman of English cricket shouldn't be saying in public.

Obviously, it's the ECB's aim to challenge the FA for the titles of most out of touch and incompetent organisation in England.

Swap Stoneman for Gubbins and Woakes for Wood and that would be my side for the 1st Test.

And he's probably getting out for 3 next week.
He can join in with Root and bairstow then.

Personally I'd happily have him remaining with Hampshire. The large percentage of the England team (top order) are woefully out of form, with Leach breaking his thumb ... Yeah that opening test match should be a beaut!

I got my wish ... Good stuff.

Edit: The squad in full

England squad for first Test
Alastair Cook, Mark Stoneman, Dawid Malan, Joe Root (capt), Jonny Bairstow (wk), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Dominic Bess.

From the BBC.

At fucking last. It's a start at least. I know Buttler's average at test match level isn't anything to write home about but with him at least you know he's got it in his locker rather than keep picking a succession of numpties who blatantly haven't. If it goes wrong, at least they've picked someone giving them a chance of it going right.
