What is everyone's side for tomorrow then? Not that it will matter as there will likely be about 100 overs bowled in 5 days according to the forecast (still time for us to collapse).

Jennings
Burns
Ali
Root
Stokes
Buttler
Foakes
Woakes
Rashid
Leach
Anderson

I don't really like Ali at 3 but not sure Denly has done enough to play, ideally I want Leach to play but not sure if 3 spinners is the way forward, could see them getting a big workload (weather permitting obviously).

Very weird, don't remember a time when literally any of the touring party would be selected in the starting line up and I wouldn't be hugely surprised.

For me, I would play Denly at number 3. He has played in the top order for nearly all of his career and isn't being chucked in the deep end at 3. I would play Ali at 5 and Stokes at 6, Stokes is best at six and Ali is good enough to play at 5. Buttler at 7 and keeping wicket.

When did Denly become a mystery spinner?

Did he bowl when he previously played for England as i cannot remember.

I think his main success has been in the domestic T20 where Kent used him as an opening bowler quite a lot. Apart from that I have no idea.

I wouldn't have Jennings anywhere near the team which means he's in :D

Jennings
Burns
Denly
Root
Pope
Stokes
Buttler
Rashid
Sam Curran
Leach
Anderson

Can't see them leaving Ali out for a while.

Hope he doesn't bat three though.

I know what you mean, but I don't like a top 3 of Jennings, Burns and Denly. They may come good, but 23-3 looks a lot more likely than 223-3 !

So Moeen is the anchor.

I like Moeen's batting but feel when he has played at three he's just playing with the handbrake on. He just looks ill at ease there IMO.

Cricinfo reckon, should Jennings 'struggle', that the top 3 for the 2nd test could contain Burns, Moeen and Stokes.

No Moeen?
Nope :D

Sling the untried players in, we know what Moeen can do and we know that he doesn't do it often enough when playing away but fair play, he's probably mugged another few away series out of the selectors before the penny drops. And he's not a top order batsman. Anywhere.

I got the bowling right but was sadly optimistic where the collapsing was concerned.

That was not a ball to cut.

(He said from his armchair with a cup of coffee.)
