England with 139 run 1st inning lead. Moeen 4-66. Apart from the top order batting yesterday, it's not a bad performance.
And we even batted out the last 10 overs without losing a wicket.

Not sure many would have predicted a 177 lead with 10 wickets left after two days.

There are no excuses not to win the Test match now, unless the weather intervenes.

I'm not sure they are capable of thinking that far ahead. TBH Foakes has shown he's got more about him facing spin than, ooooh, lets say Moeen, he of a thousand lives (who is supposed to be a good player of spin. Haha to that). He's even shown more than Jennings, he of five hundred lives. But they'll keep on picking them, on and on and on until the penny finally drops (it won't) or Root and Bayliss rotate out. Foakes has at least shown something but lets be honest, he's out as soon as they can justify bringing Bairstow back in, this England team is harder to get out of than it is to get in.

Bairstow sulked like a baby when he wasn't used as wicketkeeper after Buttler scored runs against India, well this isn't going to go down well either :D

Get a captain in with some nous and gravitas and make the cherub bat where he's told. Ooooh, very Spurs Match thread and knee jerky :D
We have so many middle order batsmen, someone has to step up and take a place at the top. I'd keep Moeen all day for his bowling hes the most consistent spinner in the team. He contributes with the bat when lower down.

Well done Mr Jennings - he showed character to bounce back from his stinking summer here, but still don't think he is good enough against a decent attack. - especially a pace one, where he seems to hang his bat out to dry with zero footwork.

Well played Jennings. The Asian conditions suit him down to the ground but credit where it’s due he is a good player of spin

Opening with Jimmy and Stokes, and all the rest spin?

Yeah he only bowled 6 overs in the first innings and you could always open the bowling with jimmy and a spinner.
It’s not something I would suggest for a test match in England but 80 mph swing bowlers are not that affective in Asia

Sri Lanka v England: Moeen Ali to move down batting order
Bayliss said Ali has "had a few chances" at number three and "hasn't been able to take advantage of that".

Well I don't think anyone saw that coming!
Guess that’s what you call deMOtion :woot:

I just got back to London after watching the first test in Galle. It’s an incredible place to watch cricket - some unbelievable views from up on the fort.

The only issue with these kind of tours is it gives you a false impression of certain players.

Jennings is clearly a very good player of spin and is able to amass runs on slow wickets.

The second he faces a bit of nippy swing or pace, he turns into the Jennings we saw in the summer vs India.

The same could be said for Foakes, but he can only really be judged in the summer.

Agreed, Jennings will still get torn apart by the Aussies in the summer.
