So now it appears the guy Stokes KO'd was a soldier...

So obviously a hero (and not an arsehole ) and his family are calling for a life ban for Stokes. ( I wonder if their son is found guilty of starting it they would accept a life ban for their son from his job?)

I'm sure no soldier (ex or current) has ever been the cause of trouble on a night out...

Bairstow, Plunkett and Ball now handed written warnings for their conduct during the series. Seems there is a serious culture around this England side.

Was listening to the Tuffers & Vaughan show from Monday night, Vaughan saying Stokes has been in a bad place for months, out late in the casinos, was out til 3am DURING the Old Trafford Test Match.

There's also that other version of events over what the fight was about involving Hales getting noshed off and Stokes beating up the bloke that had the camera. I'm sure matey in this thread who knows Hales could kick that into touch though...?

The Shield season is off and running here with 2 rounds completed. Can usually get a good grasp on how the Test players are looking in terms of early form. In the main, the batsmen have all been around the mark with some runs. Looking ok there.

Mitchell Stark has just completed his second game back from injury. He looks scary good fella's. In the first game against my home state South Aust he only picked up a couple of wickets first innings. Then 8 in the second.
They just finished the match against Western Aust. He 4 in the first (with a Hat trick) and 3 in the second to finish the game (Another Hat Trick(y)) And he looks QUICK!
As a side note Josh Hazelwood also returned from injury to join his NSW and Australian team mate Stark for the game against WA and finished with 6 for the match.

I think we are in good shape. Cant wait for the Gabba 23rd November!

Starc does worry me, he's a better bowler than Johnson was in my opinion, but...he has an absolute pea heart. If it's not going for him he's a liability.

I personally think England can win this series even without Stokes. It will be very tough but from what I have read, there are still some issues within the Australian batting line up and Starc and Cummins are quite injury prone as well.

I also think that Australian batting conditions could actually suit the English batsman as a lot of them like to play their shots and are quite aggressive.

Lyon is the big one for me, I don't really think he's a great bowler but he's the opposite of Moeen in that he really rates himself. His attitude is one of his plus points, where as I can see Moeen getting a bit of tap and going at 8 an over if his head drops.

It's also that one has always been a frontline spin option for his whole career, who can bowl a line and length and a consistent spell to create pressure, and the other who came in to international cricket as a batsman offering some part-time spin who then suddenly got thrust into the main job and is effectively trying to learn the craft.

When you hear Moeen talk, you get the impression he still doesn't really want to be or consider himself a bowler.

That's a massive thing re Moeen, but it's time he started thinking like he's the number 1, because he is. Still cant believe Jack Leach hasn't had a look in.

Isn't it strange how the prospect of an upcoming ashes series helps clear up all the injuries, especially against us poms... :sneaky:

I fear for us over there. Stokes is a huge part of that team these days and there are so many holes in our batting line up without him

I think we’ll just have to settle for smashing the Aussies 2-1 maybe!!!!

Can’t wait.

Bring it on and bring home The Ashes boys

I am actually reasonable confident we can get something out of this. Not because England are particularly great at the moment but because I don't think this is a great Australia side either. Their batting line up isn't amazing and Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins seem to be quite injury prone.

You say that but I'm sure players like Cummins, Starc and Halewood will be wrapped in cotton wool over the next few weeks. They won't need any motivation. We are just going to have to deal with loads of short balls at serious pace but again, I'm sure we will have been practising in the nets for some time.

Whichever way we look at it yes, we are going to miss Stokesy big time and everyone knows it.

By the way, has he even been charged with anything yet, and if not, I wonder why not. Stories I heard recently were that he was defending a couple of gay guys who were being targeted by a couple of homophobic morons but I have no idea if there is any truth in that. Still, weird he hasn't been charged yet (if he hasn't).

No charge, released under investigation. Two guys have done a tabloid interview saying he was defending them from a homophobic attack.
