I am actually reasonable confident we can get something out of this. Not because England are particularly great at the moment but because I don't think this is a great Australia side either. Their batting line up isn't amazing and Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins seem to be quite injury prone.

I know what you mean, Starc on his day is world class, but he has issues when it's not going for him. The others are pretty raw. I think we'll see a series based on excitement but low on quality. Both sides are not as good as they have been in previous years.

The start is critical, we've seen before that if things start to go wrong on tour then there is a tendency for it all to disintegrate. In Australia in particular you have to be mentally tough and be prepared for the battle of grinding the other team into the dirt.

The batsmen and the first two or three innings are key. It's not just about racking up the runs, you've got to bat time and keep them running in for over after over and wear them down.

I know what your saying re Stark, however I think its a different story home compared to away. To be honest I think he has come back a better bowler after his rest.
And yes I agree we both have seen better teams playing in series. Would be an interesting exercise to put your greatest ever 11 against ours. Who would win?

A thread like that would run to about 1,000 pages. Just wiki'd it and apparently both teams are on 32 series wins each in history, which is another reason why its the best test series bar none.
Best then to say it will be a draw!! - not going to be easy to bowl out those greatest ever batting line ups twice anyway.
Should be a very interesting series. It pains me to say that Australia just have the edge on their bowling, but if Englands 3 top players (Cook,Root and Stokes) play out of their skins then it will be mighty close.

I think he's answering your greatest eleven ever series question.

As for who'll win this series. I just can't see our batting doing what is required. As we speak they are struggling to reach 200 against, well, nobody really.

Well it will be strange but I think the Australian pitches will suit most of batsman more than English pitches as the ball will come onto the bat more and there won't be as much sideways movement. There aren't many nudgers and nerdlers in our line up so it could help us.

Oh I agree, but don't underestimate our batsmen's ability to find a way of getting out :D

I'm often wrong so there's hope I suppose :D

All out for 207

Simon Milenko with 5-34 was the destroyer even though he has a modest first-class record.

Yep. We're fucked :grumpy:

We had them 7-3 in their reply, but they've since stretched that to 8-3. We're never going to win the Ashes by allowing them to build partnerships like that :cautious:

You think that was bad, we've let them off the hook now to 23-5, Woakes has been far too expensive the ****.

We might as well just make the Adelaide Test a 2-day affair, I cant see either side getting more than 80 with the way things are going.

Looks like the England hierarchy really rate that Mason Crane, and he seems to have performed pretty well so far for a 20 year old.
If he gets a spot in the test team (Sydney maybe) then the Aussies are sure to go after him and try and dent his confidence.
Never forget that lad from Lancashire who only played one test and got leathered all over the place - Simon Kerrigan I think it was.

Being from Adelaide this day night test shit disgusts me. Its going to be the battle of the toss, bat first like a 1 day 50 over match till the lights come on, then get the opposition in! The pink ball is a joke.

The visibility as a spectator of that pink ball is horrendous, you can only assume it is better for the players...

We started using it in our league cricket for the half of the season that is split into a 50 overs a side game. I'm not just saying this because I'm not that good :)shifty:) but it really is hard to pick up when batting and standing up to the stumps keeping.

Do you use a white or black sightscreen when playing with the pink ball? Because we've also used pink balls in one of our competitions and the pink ball against black sightscreen seemed fine to me.

That said, we also use orange for another tournament and I'd still say that was far better (also with a black sightscreen).

Nope just the standard white sightscreen for us unfortunately.
