And no Roy at the top of the order.

We need to get Dhoni out before he starts doing damage.

Tonights T20 fixture, Lancashire v Yorkshire was a fantastic game. Reduced to 14 overs per side, Lancashire made a massive 176 and only won by one run.

Last night's T20 between Essex and Hampshire was another excellent game ending up a tie with both sides scoring 170. Sky have really lucked out with the last two games, it can't go on..........can it? :nailbiting:

Jordan Clark has just taken a hat trick in the Roses match. He claimed the wickets of Root, Williamson and Bairstow.

Not a bad little hat trick...

The Times tomorrow has some more info about the 100-ball format. The ECB is considering the following changes:
  • 15 a side
  • substitutions so batsmen can be substituted for bowlers when teams are in the field
  • a draft system
  • a limit of 3 overseas players
  • 10 balls bowled from one end, followed by 10 from the other end with the captain able to decide whether one bowler bowls all 10 or have two bowlers bowl 5
  • any player playing in The Hundred will not be available for county cricket
  • a 50-over cup for the county teams to run alongside The Hundred - which I imagine will be cricket's version of the League Cup: existing but not entirely sure why as no one is watching. Perhaps the draw can be hosted out in Bhutan.

England squad for first Test
Joe Root (capt), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Alastair Cook, Sam Curran, Keaton Jennings, Dawid Malan, Jamie Porter, Adil Rashid, Ben Stokes.

Rashid is an interesting one. Looks like Sam has overtaken his big brother in the pecking order too.

Due to the weather, the MCC has dispensed with the requirement for gentlemen to wear jackets in the Pavilion.

Human civilisation is beginning to crumble.

Why the big fuss from Vaughan and Yorkshire over rashid selection for tests. He looked all over them in the one dayers.

I think Yorkshire are miffed because he's told them previously he just wants to focus on White ball cricket, and there are rumours he has refused to play for them in the county championship in the run up to the test matches.

Vaughan and others don't like it because I think they are looking at the longer term fears - if you have people now like Buttler and Rashid basically not bothering at all to play the county championship, and still getting selected, how long before the majority of the international team decide to do exactly the same thing? And so the only longer format they experience is test matches.

And whilst there is an argument that these players should focus on getting better and breaking down the door to the team, it cant be good for morale on the players slogging their guts out on the county circuit to see someone who has skipped it get a place in the test squad.

Lastly, it remains to be seen if Rashid translates his form, maybe it's his time and the ultra dry conditions will help but we just don't know. Spin bowling craft in white and red ball cricket is so different in my opinion. Same goes for Moeen, who also looks far better in ODI's.

I think he also refused to play against Middx in the county championship title decider a couple of years back.

Right, more of a correct way of doing things rather than not good enough.
I knew he had "red ball fever" , he's said today " I never said I'd retire from tests, some pundits assumed, I didn't correct" or words to that effect.
Does the county received a payment for his absence?
I'm not dissagreeing with anything you say, just a bit clueless with behind the scenes cricket.

Very odd decision re: Rashid. Don't get me wrong, I think he's the best spinner England have, but I can certainly see why Yorkshire would be miffed!

Not just Yorkshire but every spinner that travels up and down the country to play county matches has the right to be miffed. The ECB claims to care about the county game but get again opts for a decision that seems to suggest otherwise. It's almost as if the ECB has forgotten that the county game creates its players.

To be fair, the ECB pays for the counties as they probably wouldn't survive on their own.

Entirely understandable, however I do believe the head of selectors has told Rashid that this is a one off, and for further call ups, he will need to commit to playing red ball cricket.

England bat.

Re Rashid, I hope he plays a blinder. I can't understand Vaughan weighing in. As a former England captain, he should know that what he's done has put more pressure on Rashid and reduced England's chances. If he had something he needed to say, either say it privately to the selectors, or wait until the cricket's finished.

1-0 already. So far so good.

I agree. Re Rashid, I kind of understand the counties greiviance , ECB should be aggressively understanding and a compensation package should come with these situations. Rashid for me, has done nothing wrong, after all who'd opt for Yorkshire/Any County over England
