Pope and woakes out Curran and Ali in ?
More dashers. 6 bowlers when we can’t buy runs.
Unbelievable

Moeen's definitely in as a batsmen. Just hit 219 against Yorkshire. Still harsh on Pope though. Two tests batting higher in the order than he's ever batted at county level and then dropped. Shouldn't have been in in the first place if that's where they were going to play him.

Ali is a good no 6/7 batsmen but we have too many batsmen of his ilk (stokes, buttler, woakes, pope) we need some blockers with good defensive techniques

Our test team and one day team is pretty much merging into one. It looks cobbled together without any real balance and long term planning.
We should be starting to build a test team to take on the Australians next summer, which should include an overhaul of he top order, but all we do is recycle the same old failures, with the same results.
Root is not a bad test captain, but neither is he a really good one. My main concern is that the extra responsibility is affecting his batting performances, and we could do with a relaxed Root to remind the world what a truly top class player he is - certainly need those big hundreds back from him.

You can tell they are struggling with the talent pool when players are getting (re)selected on the back of one or two innings (Ali, Vince), plus they are having to resort to throwing in youngsters and hoping it pays off.

Also not sure why Bairstow is being played with a broken finger, just seems a bit of an unnecessary risk. I guess it shows how much trouble they are having with the batting department.

I'm starting to wonder if Buttler might turn out to be a better captain than Root.

Totally get what you mean, for all Buttler's faults in how he never kicked on in red ball cricket, it's pretty clear that his experience all over the world playing the shorter format has really developed his cricket brain. There is a masterclass on Sky that gives a great insight into how he thinks as a batsman.

Ed Smith bringing him in and making him vice captain, there has got to be something in that. Some of the great test batsmen had a go at captaining their country and gave it up like Sanga and Tendulkar, I can see Root doing similar if it carries on affecting his game.

Perhaps they've had medical advice on it, and also taken into account the chances of a right handed batsman getting hit on the end of the middle finger of his left hand, assuming he isn't going to try to poke a bouncer down to third man.

Still quite a risk for me. Who knows what will happen when he is batting - he might make a triple century, but he could also get hit again, or ball constantly thudding into the bat might be uncomfortable and a distraction, or he might be affected with certain shots/if they target him. Then in the field what is happening, are we going to start hiding him?

Put it this way, if the batting was currently anywhere near a source of strength I don't think he'd be playing.

Root looks a shadow of himself atm. Sad to watch

Not too long ago he could bat with his eyes closed and make it look easy

A few times when Jimmy's been batting I've heard the commentators say that he's no rabbit in the headlights. Really not sure the same could be said for Jennings. Looking so far out of his depth in this series.

Now is the time to bring in new batsmen up the order. The new bodies simply couldn't perform worse than the ones currently playing.

I'd change the captain also..Root does not inspire this lot at all.

Indian bowlers finding swing, it wouldn't surprise me if we don't. Time to drop the entire top 4 Root included. Put anyone in. Anyone, they really couldn't do worse. Bunch of useless ****s :D

Or just reverse the batting order - Broad and Anderson opening the batting and the bowling!.
The top order situation is ridiculous. Anyone can see Jennings is not good enough to play at this level - has must have pictures of Root with a ladyboy or something

Well played Sam Curran. being dropped in the last test must have been a kick in the balls giving how he performed before, and some of the other tits picked over him.
