I'm aware of that. I still don't think it's a good reason to sell.

To me (as with Van Der Vaart) it seems more like an excuse to sell rather than necessitating a sale.

I don't like the idea of our club letting go of players they'd otherwise keep at the drop of a hat, just because the player is unsettled in the short term.

Appears to me that few who have replied have even opened the link, let alone read the article.

Tragic story which really has fuck all to do with first team appearances, and all to do with a medical condition that is ignored and excused by the size of a players contract and earnings by football clubs in general.

He won't be the first and is possibly is the third to go out of Tottenham with similar issues, though i don't blame the Club, football in general should and needs to do more in addressing player issues.

As for as the Tottenham & Levy bit - just shows how less or close to nothing we know as fans about our players. Nothing is straight forward. And trust in Levy. The man knows when to advise & when to cut lose a player. For Caulker sake, I would have hoped he listened. Wonder how he would be doing at current Poch management than at a carefree(or careless) Harry reign...

Careless or carefree? Remember harry getting shot of taarabt and dos santos. Harry didn't take a shit attitude from players.

He was allegedly at lewis's house out of his nut trying it on with his daughter. Levy didn't have much choice but to get involved.

I'm not sure how this got twisted into what you posted but the original story was that he made a derogatory comment about about Joe Lewis's daughter (who's heavily involved in the business side of things).

A "shit attitude" is different from a medical condition. For fucks sake don't place Caulker in the same sentence as those two pillocks regarding the reason for his release.

Again read the damn article, because if you had of done, you would realise that you're post would have made little sense in relation to it at all.

Very good read that. Poor fella. Kudo's to Ian Holloway - he could be dead now if it wasn't for him.

“QPR and my agent tried to push me towards Lokomotiv Moscow in January, saying it would be a fresh start. Part of me thought the money they were offering could solve all my problems but why would being on my own out in Russia help? I had no idea how to break the cycle and being in Moscow while still injured just felt a recipe for disaster. The manager, Ian Holloway, was actually telling me to stay. I’d been in his office close to tears, so he said: ‘How anyone could think sending you there would be a good idea is beyond me. You need to get yourself right.’ I appreciated him for that but, for the club, I can see why it was appealing to be shot of me but I was in no fit state to move and eventually pulled the plug on it.

What a sad story. Hopefully he manages to conquer his demons. He's still young enough to have a decent career.

Just a sad story all round. Obviously its told from his viewpoint but the clubs don't come out of it that well. When it comes to us, was it wise to keep sending a fragile kid off on these loan spells? I also don't know what to make of his ultimatum from Levy... You don't know what went on, what the club had to put up with, and maybe they had reached the end of their tether, but even if he himself wasn't facing up to needing help the club should maybe have taken football out of the equation at that point, supported rather than cut him loose, and focused on helping the human being get better.

I think, as he says himself, at that stage it appeared he was just a 20yo living it large, the depression etc manifested itself a bit later on. I'm not saying the club (and football in general) deals with kids/money/lifestyle/mental health etc well - they don't, but at that stage he wasn't so much acting as a desperately lost soul as billy big bollocks I think, which may have been just youthful bravado to cover his inner doubts etc, but hard for the club to pick up as a mental health issue and not just a character issue of a young kid juts making it big and larging it up too much.

It's a tough one. Maybe he was hiding it quite well, maybe the fact that his loans (Yeovil, then Bristol City, then Swansea) went well from a football perspective the personal struggle was not picked up on/assumed he was ok.

However from the snippets there are a lot of warning signs... Unhealthy amount of time in casinos at Bristol, iirc he had a drink related incident at Swansea, if I've read the article right Spurs have packed him off to Sporting Chance before he's really hit the first team here so are aware of a problem, he's then talked about his anxiety and not feeling worthy of being at Spurs - this must have manifested itself in some way that people at the club must have picked up on (that's going on my experience of people with anxiety, but maybe I just see the signs quicker now), you've then got whatever he got up to whilst in our first team which the club would have been aware of I suspect given Levy's comments... Add all that up that's reading as someone with obvious addiction and quite possibly mental health issues to go with it.

Mainly though it's just tragic. He had a lot of promise that has gone unfulfilled.

Just copying this across from the thread in General Football, as I see Lilbaz is posting his ill-informed, dangerous nonsense in here as well.

A couple of links for anyone who wants to learn more about mental health, or if you're having mental health problems yourself.

https://www.mind.org.uk/

https://www.thecalmzone.net/

If you are struggling with mental health problems and have been put off going to your GP because of scare stories about being fobbed off with pills and put on an endless waiting list for therapy (both of which are broadly true), it's worth knowing that there are a number of online CBT courses which have been proven to be very effective, and can be of huge help while you're waiting for face to face therapy. One I would particularly recommend is Silvercloud:

I've just finished reading it too. It's quite tragic reading this seeing how it all played out. The Bristol City bit where they just didn't seem to care was a real WTF moment. Even though he says that his first spell at Sporting Chance came too early for him you wonder what might have been had someone at Bristol City or even Spurs really forced him to deal with it when he was still a teenager...

Not sure why people would be too surprised by indifference at Bristol City. All their players were at it around that time. Most of their staff too. Probably got clocked at 3 AM by a coach on the next table.

Plus he was adored at Bristol City. A first team regular that the crowd loved. Their manager couldn't believe his luck getting a loan deal for someone they all thought would become an England regular. Given how poor and shit Bristol City are, the last thing they would do would be to rock the boat by intervening or otherwise reporting him.

I'm not surprised to hear that really, remember from the time that Bristol City (and later Swansea) adored him. But ... I don't know, it's still disappointing.
