Pinch and a punch it's the first of the month!

August is here and the countdown now begins in earnest.

We opened these ITK threads on the 16th May, way earlier than we usually do and I put it to you that this has made the wait for signings seem much longer than usual. Yes it would be nice if we'd done business already but every day that passes brings the day we start making progress that little bit closer. Keep the faith!

Sorry, no time to do a full round-up this morning i've a lot to do this morning and need to have all of it squared away before the cricket starts, which is why i'm up so early! :)

So here's a condensed version.

The Goat gave another solution to an earlier cryptic

ITK 1: Some bad news
SC goes into a panic

ITK 2: Some good news
SC has a wankfest

Remember to take salt with each snippet. This minimises the chances of you becoming unhinged.

Thought for today: Worrying works! 90% of the things I worry about never happen.

HAVE YOU DONATED YET? WELL HAVE YOU?

SC needs your help! Do you sit on here spamming the life out of the thread? Is this the first thing you log onto when you get to work in the mornings? Then please help us keep it going by making a donation!

EVERY LITTLE HELPS!

Woohoo, first up.

Isn't today the day Vucinic has to confirm whether he accepts our terms, or we move on? Seem to remember someone last week saying that we'd given a deadline of today for him to decide.

Isn't this the day he's supposed to make his signing with Juventus official?

Sorry, lost all enthusiasm for this window & this thread.

More polarised than a White bear...

So why are you posting in it?

I'm guessing this could be quite an interesting week, with the season fast approaching and us along with many other teams trying to get their business done.

I've seen this kind of post so many times on here. in truth nothing materializes. the truth is we have had since mid may to make signings of note and we have not done so. why would we make them now ????? i've heard the drivel that we need to sell before we can buy. this is despite the fact that we have had since mid may to start selling those we want out. so far O'hara has left.

since the 2010 window we have made only 2 signings of note, VDV and Pienaar in the january window. our strikers failed dismally this season gone by yet here we are nearly 3 months after the last season ended we still have the same strike force, pathetic. I believe we will fight for 6 & 7th this season. Man U, Man City,Chelsea,Arsenal,Liverpool will be the top 5.

I am going with your view. I honestly believe if we had any real ambition we would have strengthened now, even more so after messing about in January transfer window, which cost us 4th.

And what happens with Bale, Modric and even VDV should we end up 6th-7th. At least we got to see the CL last season as I cant see us moving up from here on unless DL pulls some serious rabbits out of his hat, though with the prem starting so soon, we should have had fresh blood, training with team and ready for start of season. Bah. I hate mondays.

I don’t buy into this fact Bilbao wont sell.
Yes they will, and if its to a non Spanish side it will be all the better for them.

Everyone has their price, we just won't meet it.

I would hardly call a 22m bid for Mata a lack of ambition

Its a new dawn

Every club would sell any player (even Man City and Chelsea) if the transfer offer were high enough, just depends if the player is worth more to the buying club than the seller and or if the seller can afford to pay what it would take to make it happen.

The fact Bilbao only play players from the Basque region makes him particularly valuable to them as he would be very difficult to replace.

I am not so sure we are willing to pay the type of fee it would take to have them accept a deal (seems we were outbid for Vucinic by Juve) also I don't know how likely the lad would be to leave Spain and come play for us (depends on what wage would offer and his other options I suppose)

Its a new day
Its a new life............ fooooooooor meeeeeeeeeeee
And I'm feeling............ pretty rough actually.
3 day hangover. At 29 I am too old for this shit.
Anyway. Bens ITK on Llorente would be as good as it could get for us. Love him as a player. Beats of a man. Scored the most headed goals of all players in every major league in Europe last season. Someone to put the end product on Bales delicious crosses.

He's got a €36M release clause so if we want him we know what we have to do.

Would you take 2 players from a club one signed, one on loan and then give the team you are taking from first option at an agreed price for one of your stars for 2 seasons time?

Good business if you ask me...

I dont know the players involved!

I think today is the day that TSH86 upgrades his 'feelings about signings or lack of" to "tetchy"

I've gone beyond tetchy to 'narked off'.

However this feeling is tempered by realism. There are not that many players that will improve our squad and those that will cost alot both in terms of fees and mostly in terms of wages. At the moment we don't have the wage structure to accomodate those types of players which makes it tricky, and coupled with the fact that there are clubs with a bigger pull than us (both financially and with the Champions League) challenging us for these players, I'm not really surprised that we're struggling to bring in quality players.

At the other end of the market, clubs are having to be careful who they buy due to the 25 man squad and the general financial fug meaning it's hard for us to sell as well.

All in all I don't think that we're doing anything wrong at the moment but if we want to bring in top quality players we'll have to make changes to the wage structure and if we want to sell then we may have to make significant losses. I'm still not sure if that's the best thing for the club. Fortunately it isn't my decision.

Can that be any of our players, or are they talking about Bale?

They are probably talking about Bale, and it is an option, not a promise we will sell. I'm guessing that if we were to decide that Bale could leave within that two year period, he would be first offered to Real at the pre-agreed price.

Harry's comments today have left me pretty deflated. I thought as manager of the club, his job was to be positive about us. If anything, he's making us less attractive to potential targets.

I've remained relatively calm this transfer window, but I really do think this is an important week for us and our success/failures in the transfer market could shape our season.

we have 1 more pre season friendly and then the season starts..... if we want a striker in to start the season then we need them in this week just to have a chance of getting used to the other players a little bit!!

We should now cut our loss's and sell the deadwood for anything so we free up space (and wages) to get the players we want
