I was hoping the Jones and Smalling partnership would be here forever. Will be gutted to break that up and see Toby slotting in there £70m in Levys pocket or not

Would bug me seeing him in their back line.

It's nice scratch to add to the kitty, but part of me wants it scuppered.

Don’t think that the straight cash offer means we have absolutely no chance with Martial. There may be different reasons why United would prefer a counter offer of cash also. After all, swaps don’t really happen any more. If (that’s IF) the club really think Martial is worth it then go balls deep. Let’s see. Myself I’d prefer Zaha plus another striker, but that’s only personal preference.

I’m sure there was ITK years back that stated most clubs deal in Euros (even English clubs) as they have accounts over seas and can release money quicker, helps with fees in exchange rates etc. When buying over seas players.

Regarding the fee. Utd probably won’t have much left to pay for Martial, they’ll sell him to another club for £50m so they would be recouping the money for Toby straight away.

I’d personally turn them down and insist on the swap. We can afford de Ligt without Utds money.

If United are being difficult with us over Martial why can't we be difficult with them over Toby. Its all a negotiating stance and even if we end up selling him for cash we need to get our poker game face on to try and force the issue to get Martial. Would really hope that Martial would press United for a move to us but perhaps he is not 100%

We are being difficult. We are asking for €70 million!

Yanited being extremely difficult with Martial to us. Maureen does not mind. Problem is they have 2 year option on his deal, so very difficult.
Interesting how well-behaved Martial seems to have been up to this point, wonder how long that lasts as season approaches and another year on the bench looms...

The most important thing about that sum is, that it gets put straight into the first team for a starter not bench warmers

Presumably the two year option means united are asking for silly money for martial. Personally I’d take a straight swap, if it came to it.

Sounds to me like they aren't asking for anything and because they have this option in the contract it means that they have no reason to sell.

i would certainly take a straight swap but it might be complicated by the fact that United probably will still owe add ons to Monaco that might be difficult to value off a notional transfer fee rather than a real cash one.

Ok so basically we're selling Toby and it's not for a mouth watering 70 million, probably 40 - which is nowhere near as palatable when they've given us a resounding no on Martial.

I know he's nearly 30, had injury problems etc...but its high time we acted like one of the big boys now and put a marker down, a precedent for the future that we won't continue to sell our top players to domestic rivals.

I'd just be much, much happier if he was sold abroad.

I will say this for the last time. Trix! Help me please :barefoot:

Wake up people! Harping on about we don’t give them Toby, if they don’t give us Martial-we don’t deal to another club who are our competition. Unrealistic expectations. DL has to thi:smug:nk commercial value, and where the interest is. The only club in keen on Toby is Yanited. We therefore don’t have the bargaining power. DL is at his best when he can play clubs against each other, to get the best deal for us.
The manager has made it very plain to shift Toby.
