I believe we will make 1 statement signing, in the region of 50m-packaged up to look more. I really do believe we will do that. The club know the backlash it would face, and also from the media. We planned carefully to do such this season.

I personally wouldn’t be too underwhelmed, because we are batting now in the big boy league. And the key players we want, others want also.
Doesn’t mean much though if we only ‘want’ these players. Need to start acting on it and actually signing these players. But atm doesn’t sound too promising.

Statement signing would be exciting if it's a real game changer for our first eleven. A highly rated prospect being loaned back or something not so much.

Not ripping you Herc at all here but yeah not exactly exciting news. We've heard many times that "150 mill" number tossed about and two or three big signings now down to one "big" signing which for 50 mil, I dont know what type of true impact marquee guy you are going to get.

Herc seems to be getting less and less optimistic with the ITK. We all appreciate him sharing, but the overall tone of it has changed.

So judging from the latest ITK, we’re losing a player to a rival for £70m, and buying a player for around £50m which will make us ‘title contenders’. We surely need at least 3 £50m players to make us anywhere near that!?

We’re told that we’re not far from the top table, yet the best players are moving for much more than £50m these days.. I’m really struggling to see much in alignment at moment personally.

Also, if only United are interested now, why wouldn’t we wait until after the World Cup? A world class defender will be more in demand later in the window surely!? What’s the hurry?

But if we have little bargaining power, surely United won't simply pay 70 million?
We have some leverage - we have Toby under contract. Jose clearly not happy with his choices at defender, and there are not many players available who can be as good as Toby right now. Jose manages year-to-year, there is no long-term plan for him.

So, United will have to pay up to get Toby now.

United's firm interest might also stir some of the non-England clubs - they may not be able to match United, but I think Levy would sell abroad, if the money were close. Right now it sounds more like the European squads were waiting to see if Toby's priced dropped.

Think some of you need the get a reality check. The two Manchester clubs can overpower us in a lot of areas but we are rapidly gaining on them.
Will be tougher to gain on them if we keep strengthening their weakest positons.

You mean gaining on the city that broke records last season and won the double? and who are due to spend another 150m this summer? Bet they're shitting themselves. Especially when we sell our best defender and bring in our one big signing (who in all likelihood will be an 18 year old). I'm interested to see where this is all gonna lead. We've been sold the dreams since Jan, lets see how real they get. The ITK's are doing a great job (as always) and if nothing else, its making for an intriguing window already.

Im seeing a whole host of posts about how underwhelmed or distressed you are and second guessing both a very very good manager and also a highly skilled negotiator (love him or hate him levy is recognised as being a master of the art of squeezing blood from a stone)... if toby is going (or gone) im pretty sure poch doesnt want him and im pretty sure levy will be getting a bloody good deal for him. As has been said before we did without toby for a lot of last season, sanchez is one year wiser and jan is the man... why not put a fresh pad over your manginas and wait and see what plays out before self mutilating

Wasn’t HerteYid saying we will be buying Martial? Now he’s saying we’re not. Funny enough that’s why you shouldn’t make statements like that, like Herc was also pointing out. Just hurts your own credibility.

If 70m for Toby we should accept IMO even if martial isn’t included. To bad Martial was my dream signing besides Bale.

£50m + add-ons

Could potentially rise to £70m to £80m (just speculating)

So if some of you are wondering about marque signings, this could be your answer

Who knows, but I think that's what Herc means

If martial is first choice for Pochettino we must not sell them Toby if they refuse to sell to us.

There is only one side that would suffer in this, it would be us. Unless there is another suitor for Toby.

Tbh, I think we're better than Man Utd currently, despite what the league table says

I'm someone who buys into the idea that Wembley was a handicap to us last season, which we won't have to deal with going forward (fingers crossed)

Its what Poch was talking about, taking a risk.

Can understand why people are feeling underwhelmed at strengthening utd. My biggest concern is lack of strong links in cm. If dembele is off we have a bigger whole to fill than Toby going.

The thing I don't understand is, we supposedly had £150M to spend plus whatever we made on sales, now we may make one signing in the region of £50M and a few £20-30M purchases. We need to add quality to our starting 11, this is even before we sell the likes of Toby and possibly Rose.

Can't deny that there are startling similarities between this Toby fiasco and the 'things have changed' narrative this summer, and the Walker to City deal last summer.

Hope it's different but clear parallels already appearing.
