Net spend 30m-50m

Batting with the big boys

Serious challenge for title

LOL

The difference is compared to the Manc’s they will be spending 150-200 but don’t have much to sell, where we have 4 or 5 to shift. Get it right this window, and in future windows hopefully only need to buy and sell 1-2 players, with larger values on the incomings.

MODS, it might be an idea to put a "countdown clock" at the top of this thread, to remind people that the window doesn't close tomorrow at 9.00am.
No one has done any big business yet apart from Liverpool with Keita, yet we have already increased all the key players and management contracts.
There is a WC on in 3 days, patience is needed on here.
I know it been said before, but this window is very different for many reasons, some of which I can't put in here.
My favourite Spurs saying is " its the hope that kills you" well I'm not dying this summer ( he says hopefully)

I’m sure we have many attacking options too just like the summer we originally wanted martial and ended up with njie......
Or when we signed... [insert success]
come on man, some you win, some you lose, but either way it's not for this thread.

There's no point speaking sense the natives don't understand things that affect their narrative. Seeing as we don't normally switch on until August I find it refreshing that we are clearly trying to act before the WC and should have available players in nice and early for some pre season.

Patience isn’t built into the younger fans, not like us middle to old age, me being the middle, you being the old

I think the panic/ impatience on transfers from most here is knowing how we have faired in past windows. How close we were to amazing deals just to fail at the end. I have started to enjoy the window now with a what will be approach.

I’ll say again, no one, not even Levy, has a clue how much we have available to spend.

It just doesn’t work like that. Transfer fees are amortised over length of contract, various clauses make a difference, which currency we’re working in and what our current position in that currency is, etc, etc.

There’s not a war chest with 150m waiting to be spent.

Re Gards tweet
The times they are a changing was a Bob Dylan song
Bob Dylan- Dylan Thomas - Thomas Lemar
sorted, Martial can keep his sulky puss in Manchester
*Goes off to do his Welcome To The LAne Thomas Lemar video :cautious:

Think it was stated previously that Gards' tweet wasn't a cryptic.

It's hard to be rationale when as fans we want immediate gratification - especially when the media continually pumps "dave to Liverpool, Bob to Man City"

However we have been repeatedly been told it's contracts first. I hope (ITK says) most have been sorted but we are crossing I's and dotting T's. I expect these to be announced over the next few weeks which means no signings announced.

That's not to say we are not working on them, and again per ITK it's not a simple window due to who we want, the Trix complexities, and the world cup. I would suspect we are lining up and pushing as much of these deals as we can but will have to wait.

Additionally the strategy of this makes sense, from when I used to work in FX sales for football clubs. We did so much goal-post shifting due to the attack v defence nature of the window. I.E. just when you though you could put your time and resources into buying a player, man utd would come out of nowhere and start trying to buy our players. Therefore your resources (bonus', contracts) and time kept switching between keeping an existing player and trying to buy a new one. Therefore you continually operated in the grey as to what you could spend.

This is why I like the "key players are not for sale" position of sorting contracts first. It means all attention is shifted onto "attack" trying to shift players we don't want, and buying ones we do. It gives a level of certainty topped up by whatever we offload.

Before you suggest this should be an obvious tactic each window - that's not how the world works sadly.

Well in ITK Update 6 Hercules said: "Now Poch has said it, I will unfold s bit more. We WILL exceed 150m spend, which relies not on sales, and a good amount of sales monies will be added. We want 3 priority signings in early, possibly four. Aside from manchester clubs, we are in the same market as the other top 4 clubs. "

http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/index.php?threads/update-11-hercules-on-spending.132735/

Now, we all know things can, and will, change. It may be that the players we want, for whatever reason, may not sign and our spending may not reach the levels indicated. I chose to accept what Herc has said - with the usual large pinch of salt!

@Waiwonder perhaps you'd like to argue your case that discussing ITK, quoting said Update, in the ITK thread, is Spam! You might not agree with me, and that's fine, but it doesn't make it Spam.
