It's hard to be rationale when as fans we want immediate gratification - especially when the media continually pumps "dave to Liverpool, Bob to Man City"

However we have been repeatedly been told it's contracts first. I hope (ITK says) most have been sorted but we are crossing I's and dotting T's. I expect these to be announced over the next few weeks which means no signings announced.

That's not to say we are not working on them, and again per ITK it's not a simple window due to who we want, the Trix complexities, and the world cup. I would suspect we are lining up and pushing as much of these deals as we can but will have to wait.

Additionally the strategy of this makes sense, from when I used to work in FX sales for football clubs. We did so much goal-post shifting due to the attack v defence nature of the window. I.E. just when you though you could put your time and resources into buying a player, man utd would come out of nowhere and start trying to buy our players. Therefore your resources (bonus', contracts) and time kept switching between keeping an existing player and trying to buy a new one. Therefore you continually operated in the grey as to what you could spend.

This is why I like the "key players are not for sale" position of sorting contracts first. It means all attention is shifted onto "attack" trying to shift players we don't want, and buying ones we do. It gives a level of certainty topped up by whatever we offload.

Before you suggest this should be an obvious tactic each window - that's not how the world works sadly.
Best post I’ve seen in a very long time!

I have read and reread so much of this thread, I have ruminated, cogitated and considered all the various opinions and possible options that have been presented and, in conclusion, I remain very optimistic.:)

@Waiwonder perhaps you'd like to argue your case that discussing ITK, quoting said Update, in the ITK thread, is Spam! You might not agree with me, and that's fine, but it doesn't make it Spam.

sorry. didn't even know I hit spam. didn't mean to hit any rating but scroll. I'll remove it

We can't reject 80m euros for Toby. He's not one of our most important players anymore in my opinion and at 29 he may not be the same player after his injury. I would like to think we can insist on Martial in return though.

Sell them Toby before the WC and just keep on dangling a decent amount in front of their noses for another month for Martial. United may well be a very well off club but they still need to balance their books somewhat. If that fails go and buy choice B (or Bale! ?)

I’ll say again, no one, not even Levy, has a clue how much we have available to spend.

It just doesn’t work like that. Transfer fees are amortised over length of contract, various clauses make a difference, which currency we’re working in and what our current position in that currency is, etc, etc.

There’s not a war chest with 150m waiting to be spent.

Really important point this...Again, we get back to the idea of being smart and diligent with money spent. We aren't a bottomless pit of cash (and have a new stadium coming), and like @Hercules said we'll identify our targets that Poch has deemed fit and worthy of a place in our squad. I think also as fans we have to remember we have one of the best squads in the league, it will take only top players to come in and fill spots - not to mention two of the best signings we'll make is Poch and Harry signing new deals. So these players have to fit the squad mentality, team culture and most of all playing style of Poch. All really important things in considering and identifying potential signers.

In Poch I trust.

Would love a bit of Igijedi action today, Dele or Eriksen contract announcement. Think it was lunch time on Friday when he pre-empted the Kane announcement.

i guess we knew but anyway
ali z : Toby his dad and his Agent have all played their cards badly, they would need to come crawling after agreeing a deal then moving goalposts more than once.

Great news. We’re tying down our key players and staff in what seems to be a very strategic way. This is exactly what we were told would happen once things fell in place with Poch’s contract etc. Looking good

It’s not a 2 year option, his deal runs out next year and UTD have a 1 year option.
I heard that too. But that does’t mean utd should sell him now because its the last chance they have to get some good money for him? Next summer he will only have 1yr left and we all know u get way less money as ur desperate to get sth and not lose the man for free

It's sounded for a while like Toby's been advised badly - he seems to be very much a team player (making all the right noises on social media when he was out injured etc) but this little episode will have done his reputation no good at all. A nice statement might to be to get new representation and tell his dad to sod off out of his business.

Of all the people I'd want to avoid winding up and then have to go grovelling to... Levy has to be towards the top of that list. Right behind my mum, who would never tire of reminding me about it.

So there's still hope?

Nah, didn't think so.

I thought we had itk that the option was for 18 months after his year runs out so he has 2.5 years left on his contract effectively.

Isn't Levy known for notoriously moving goalpost during negotiations.
You should think he could accept someone using his tactics against him only to come crawling back begging for the original deal?
