I'll bite...what the fuck for?!

Well, I'd swap Lamela for Bale in a heart beat but it's not that hard to find reasons to argue the opposite. Lamela is very important to our pressing game for a start - an area which Bale will never excel at. Younger. And, despite one big hip injury, less prone to soft tissue injuries that Bale is plagued with.

My boss has a friend from school who works for Goldman Sachs who said that Bale has transferred €15 million into pounds. Could mean nothing but thought I'd post cos my excitement at the possibility he's coming home is unreal.

I wouldn't read too much into this. RM players get paid twice a year so I'm guessing he's just transferred over his latest pay cheque to GBP while the exchange rate is extremely favourable.

Last I saw Bale earns €18.2M a year after tax, half of that at €9.1 vs €15M...the amounts don't add up.

Of course i'd love it if Bale rejoined the club but ... :cautious:

... i'm worried that this could derail our whole window.

The problem as I see it is that this isn't likely to be sorted out anytime soon. From the ITK we have received so far it sounds like we have our transfer plans in place and Plan B should Plan A fail but how does a prospective mega transfer like Bale fit into our strategy? It will be a huge chunk of our budget in transfer fee and wages and we also have to take in to account what players we would no longer be interested in if we buy Bale.

The scenario I fear is that we spend all window trying to get Bale but ultimately fail. In the meantime most of our Plan As move elsewhere, fans expectations rise, we are left with a huge transfer kitty burning a hole in Levy's pocket and are desperate to sign players and the selling clubs all know this so we end up overpaying for our Plan Bs (or Plan Zs :arghh:).

I don't want to be pessimistic but this is how we ended up with Sissoko :(.

Don’t really see a reason to get excited about any ITK linking Bale to a return to England. United have been the ones pressing hardest to get him and that’s likely where he’ll end up.

Look we've got a 3rd hand internet rumour from someone involved in finance and all those guys are 100% trustworthy.

This is nailed on now.

The last mention of Bale by Ed Woodward was saying they have no further interest after signing Sanchez. Now that may have changed but it's worth consideration.

I will just caution - this could be the most expensive transfer in history - not in how much is paid, but in how little will ever be recouped. Its unlikely that we could ever sell Bale on - where would he go? And who would pay for him at 31-32?

So, we have to be prepared to eat the entire transfer fee - and it will still be a big fee. Certainly you would hope that a Bale deal raises the profile of the club - in terms of sponsorship money (and even TV money, we are last among the big-6 in TV appearances...). But, I am pretty sure this will be the biggest transfer fee paid without being able to recover some/most of it later in a player's career.

Even Real Madrid are looking to recoup their investment...
