would city sell to us.... no, why sell to them, we don't need the money, well just be strengthening city, and they will want to weaken us from this... be sure of it

As I said in a the walker thread, it's not so simple.

Firstly it seems Poch wants him out. Secondly the money is obscene for a full back, easily a world record I'd imagine. Chelsea sold Mata to Man Utd for a big fee, are they seen as a selling club?

You also have to consider that City would also most likely sign another good full back if Walker didn't happen. Walker is a good full back but not world class, I doubt there would be a big difference in quality between Walker and their alternative, so we aren't really giving them such a huge boost.

There's also the possibility that the player could regress in a different system, Poch seems to be one of the best around for full back development, and there's a strong argument that this Spurs team is better than the sum of its parts because of Poch.

When you consider all of the above, it seems no where near as destructive as say selling Dier to Utd would be IMHO.

Walker has only come of age under Poch. Before that he was a good full back with terrible concentration levels.

Who's to say he won't go back to that level of performance?
you cant sell to a rival, don't u get it...it doesn't matter what, would city sell to us, would man u sell to us...NO, we got to get of that shit, look at oxe at arsenal, and the trouble they giving Liverpool to sign him, they dont want to sell to a rival, refuse,

Like we are doing with Eric Dier? And did with Modric and Bale (to PL clubs) before that.

There's more to the Walker deal, it's obvious. We want to cash in. Rightly or wrongly that seems to be Poch and Levy's decision. City aren't bullying us into doing something we don't want to do here. I'd rather sell him abroad but this is by no means us bending over IMHO.

The noises coming out of Spurs regarding Dier are incredibly telling when it comes to Walker. It's clear if we didn't want to sell, the world would know.

Are you agreeing with me that we are happy for Walker to leave on the right terms, or are you saying we want to sell Dier too? I'm not sure what you are saying there...

The press releases have been clearly very different as far as I'm concerned.

Edit: I get it now, I thought you were the person I replied to initially. Yes it is very telling.

Yep. Seems more like the Clichy Arsenal to City signing.

I like Walker, and whilst I won't wish him well if he joins a team we're competing with, I'll remember his time with us fondly. However, Trippier has things in his locker that Walker, with all his athleticism and pace, simply doesn't have. I can see the logic of letting him go, especially for the price being thrown about.

Some juicy info tonight, does seem Pereira has gone quiet, maybe Kwp has impressed Poch enough to think we don't need anyone their.

Pau, Pereira, Foyth & Barkley does seem quite realistic tbf

Can't shake the feeling something is not quite right with selling Walker. Maybe it is the lack of excitement on anyone we could replace him with (I'm very doubtful we are going for/will get Peirera). Maybe it is the feeling that City have everything in attack and almost nothing in defence...why are we alleviating their weakness?? Maybe it is that nagging thought that even though Trippier's assist rate in his games was mind-blowing, especially with Kane, we will miss the rotation with Walker (and concede more from the change than the goals we gain). Maybe it is the fact that I can't convince myself to be excited about Ross Barkley...I just feel more Sissoko from him than Dele. I don't think he'll improve under Poch. I don't think he will take us forward. I think we will miss Walker more than the gains we would make from having Barkley.

I hope I'm wrong. I hope we do replace Walker/play KWP and it goes amazingly well. I hope Ross Barkley plays so well we wonder who we can drop for him. Just have a bad feeling.

I feel so underwhelmed at our links considering we will be getting such a big sum of money for walker
Given where we finished the last 2 seasons and the Walker fee, this window is shaping up to be absolute horse shit. Underwhelmed is putting it lightly. Just shaping up to be a brutal window and we cannot expect to keep our better players if we refuse to show ambition and actually strengthen.

There is definitely something in this. Spurs getting money just seems to do nothing apart from make it easier for Levy to get his net spend.

I've made peace with losing walker especially as it seems Poch wants him out, but even though I've come round to Barkley the current links aren't exactly making the statement that we truly want to kick on.

I do love how we've competed so well with such limited transfer power, but I can't help wondering what more we could achieve with a proper balls out signing or two. Remember when we dreamt of top four so we could go and get exciting signings? How blissfully unaware we were...

Now we could end up getting Barkley and Pereira, both exceed expectations and we come out smelling of roses, but the problem with trying to play it too smart is you increase the margin for error.

I have hope one of the ins is periera who would be perfect replacement, in saying that that's more a hope of our transfer movements then anything

This is your default reaction to every transfer window.
Let's wait and see

If Walker out means Pereira and Barkley in I'd say that's a good deal for Spurs even if Walker is going to a rival. I recon he regresses with City.

It's going to be awfully weird seeing Walker in another club's kit next season (provided it goes through as expected) :(
