If the Barkley ITK is true.. Happy days. The kid has talent, absolutely no doubt about that.

Question is, how could can he be.

With Poch managing him...endless.

Luke Shaw, Jay Rod, Ward-Prowse, Danny Rose, Dele, Harry, Tripps....you see my point.

I'd take young raw English Ross in a heartbeat. Poch and JP would make him unplayable.

COYS

Sorry, but where's the Barkley itk everyone is talking about?

I love how JJ calls out the media on utter bullshit.

I doubt it's complete BS from the newspaper's point of view. I suspect Mourinho and/or Smalling's agents planted the story so the reporter would have a source.

It's the kind of sub-Machiavellian manouevring that gives The Special One a raging hard on: "Mr Reporter, I have a story I want you to publish: the famous Reds will get the lion Dier, whilst Spurs will take the fragile Smalling off our hands".

Yeah - in your dreams, Jose.

I'm delighted JJ has called it out as absolute horseshit from the Spurs perspective.

Guys.......If you're going to bring JJ's stuff into the thread please do it in text, as you (ought to) know, images aren't welcome in this thread.

the optimist in me says that we won't announce any on July 1 because that is a Saturday, and we never seem to announce new signings on weekends.

Monday July 3, new kit and hopefully a new signing.

The strong Barkley and Lemar links make me wonder who's going to be sacrificed. We moved away from the 4231 to 3421, meaning starts in that attacking midfield berth are reduced. Alli, Eriksen, Son, Lamela, Sissoko, Nkoudou, Barkley, Lemar, that's a lot of players for two starting spots, even for three spots if we went back to 4231. Assume Sissoko is off, but realistically I think we'd need to lose another two more.

Don't think we'll completely move away from 4-2-3-1.

I don't normally buy into this sort of thing, but I think if we don't get Barkley in so that he has at least most of pre-season with us then next season could be a write off for him. I say this because of the natural build/body shape he has and remember the amount of time it took for Dembélé to reach the lean beast shape that saw Poch re-introduce him.

Was thinking this earlier if we get both. Sissoko and one of GKN or Lamela I would guess.

May be hard to get a decent fee on Lamela straight away with his injury so may need to be a loan to buy.

Would rather get one of them for Sissoko and keep Lamela and GKN.

Only 2 years left on contract, so seems like right time to sell if he doesn't sign a new one
Injury makes getting any actual value from a sale almost impossible. He'll have to show he's made a strong recovery with us before any other club would be willing to stump up the cash.

I'm not so sure we need to get rid of any AM/wingers except Sissoko who wants out actively it seems.

We're going to play an awful lot of games this year hopefully, and we're always talking about dept in squad.

Having a couple of extra players in the AM/CAM/winger roles mean we can rest guys like Eriksen and Alli before CL games and rotate in guys like Lamela and Barkley. Not to mention the cups.

That of course hinges on guys like Lamela, GKN and Barkley buying into it and staying in game shape through training.

Mate, I doubt we'd "sacrifice" anyone.
The club will likely be looking to improve on our competitiveness over all of the competitions we're in, so an increase in available quality is what will be sought, not a trade off.

Should we bring Lemar and Barkley in, they will add to our options, not replace some.

If we do go deeper in the 3 cup competitions, we'll likely be playing in excess of 60 games. Squad rotation and injuries will demand that more players are utilised over the season. As the FA Cup semi final demonstrated, that additional quality, particularly in the attacking sense, can be the difference between success and failure.

I doubt we'd see anything that would constitute a player being "sacrificed."

As for the two in question, Barkley I'm a bit meh about, but I was the same regarding Wanyama, so I'm happy to reserve judgement there, but Lemar I really hope we get. As others have said, he would slot in lovely and adds another dimension to our attacking options. Get him firing and our penetration in the final third would be incredible.
