20 teams in the league, only about 4 have done anything.

Look at Villa, not only have they done nothing but they got weaker!

Why do people think it does any good to moan until the window shuts, particularly when they have no idea what is going on within the club and what efforts are being made to sign players. Yes, we may fuck this up but does constant whinging change anything.
This!

Only 4 may have done business, but one of them, Liverpool are strengthening all over the pitch.

While I still believe we have a better squad, unless we make some essential signings soon, I am starting to worry about how we will do, and in the long term, how we will
hold onto our key players if we miss out on CL again :(

I can understand the impatience of fans as well but we have to remember we are after players of high calibre and won't be easily attainable - if we wanted to go for middle of the road players then we'd have done plenty of business by now.

Also, we still have a very talented pool of players and a large pool at that - to upgrade on what we currently have and coupled with trying to offload not just has-beens, but full international players, it's going to take time and will require patience from our board.

I largely agree. It still hasn't exactly been a busy transfer window and as you've said most clubs haven't done alot so far.

I also agree that we mostly don't know what's going on, certianly in detail, therefore it's wrong to criticise the club too much without these facts.

I would say though that we rarely have transfers either out or in which aren't picked up by an ITK or the press before they happen. This suggests that nothing is particularly close either out or in at the moment which is why I think people are frustrated.

I hope I'm wrong and I hope we've got some fingers deep into various pies that we don't know about. But the sense I get is that we're not very close to doing anything at the moment.

We are all worried but we have to remember the only reason liverpool were anywhere near us last season was due of our numpties up front. Our teams outlook can be transformed with one striker signing. Obviously if that doesn't get sorted then this place will go into meltdown, with spurs fan everywhere hanging themselves at the prospect of flappy, lanky, ruskie and ..erm Offsidey up front next season.

doesnt it nark you that Liverpool, Man u - even sunderland, stoke, are doing reasonable (I'm not suggesting we would want those players) business early and we're playing hardball in some negotiations it seems. :bang:

i just worry we'll go backwards this year while everyone spends like billy-o to get them up the league ladder
I think someone made this point, but Liverpool are buying players that are no better than what we already have, we need strikers, but in every other position unless someone is a serious upgrade on what we already have then we don't need or want them.
They need to completely rebuild their squad whereas we need to prune and tweak ours.

But then we haven't had that many windows since DL actively tried to stop the leaking of information.

The January bids for players in Spain were not, if i remember correctly, all picked up by ITKs until they were called on SSN.

I have no doubt that if we had wanted to, we could have signed a whole bucnch of average players by now. Then people would still have been complaining about a lack of ambition.

We might not be first choice for a lot of the top players we've been linked with so we either have to be patient or settle for less.

Which of the players Liverpool have bought would you want at Spurs though? I imagine none of them. None of the other top 6 clubs wanted those players so its a real no-brainer for them to sign for Liverpool.
The players we want are either wanted by, or are already at, other top European clubs so they are more difficult to get.

Again I agree but in the last window we all thought that there was no info because the leaks had been stopped etc etc and then nothing happened.

I still firmly (relatively) believe that we've got lots of irons in the fire but I firmly believed that in January as well.

It's not time to panic but it's time to get a bit jittery methinks.

Perhaps.

Its comforting to know that Arsenal fans must have similar feelings to us at the moment despite having CL football to look forward to.

You'd be wrong. I'd have carrol, even at that price. He shows every sign of being the next Nat lofthouse. He is genuinely phenomenally good with his head and scores with both feet. I'd be shocked if Liverpool don't have a great season next year and at least supplant Arsenal in the CL places.

Kenny has gone out and bought real-world practical solutions to all of Liverpools shortcomings (lack of options and consistency up front, a passer in midfield and cover for Gerrard). Even towards the end of last season with Carrol returning from injury and Suarez finding his feet and with the rest of that shitty squad, they started to play some good stuff under Kenny. This year they;ll be a force.

Bear that in mind before you bleat on about how much money they've wasted.

I'm starting to get worried about our inactivity. The worry is coupled by the almost near certainty that one of our star players will leave to go to a rival club. If Luka wasn't whinging like a little girl I'd be less worried, I think.

Remember when keane and berbatov were in this position and were striking and being very disruptive..whatever sky and mail are saying he is training and being considerate to the managers and players, so things could be worse.
