Have we got the answer yet to the "I shot the sheriff" cryptic?

I know it's a (basically silent) slow itk day but the short answer is 'no' and unless the deal is 100% off or actually happens then we will possibly never find out. If we start another 20 pages of guessing we might well awaken the ban beast.

The answer's been correctly guessed (amongst the many) if that's what you mean.

Not trying to restart the guessing game (except in my own head). Thought I might've missed the reveal.

Cheers rob

Hertyid on coys last night re Martial (previously he was quite bullish about him coming here so good to hear that man utd’s recent comments are probably just posturing):

He's moving. We want him. Fingers crossed.

To me it sounds like Man U are positioning themselves to extract the maximum possible transfer fee, with Martial as the bad guy.

I’m not convinced that favours us.

You think Levy won’t return the favour with Toby ?

Agreed, could just be United setting their stance to make sure they don't get done by Levy, we know he's going to extract as much as he can for Toby, so United won't want to be seen to come of worse by surrendering Martial too easily.
Seems Mourinho doesn't rate him that much, so is he really going to be concerned about selling to a rival?? I doubt it.
United just want to be seen to be holding the advantage.

I very much doubt it's Mourinho deciding who the club sells to. He'll decide if a player is wanted or not but he isn't going to be involved in all the negotiations and deciding which bids United accept I wouldn't have thought.

There are lots of rumours that Utd cannot sell him for more than €60m otherwise they have to pay an agreed percentage of any transfer fee to Monaco. If true, it could cap the overall fee to this amount to avoid a payaway. Having Toby as a card up our sleeve might help as well but clearly no guarantees.

Utd need to manage PR so Martial had no choice but to come out and suggest he needed to leave (via his agent). It gives Utd the chance to say we want him to stay (which they’ve done). So yes paint Martial as the bad guy. Protects Utd from a fan backlash should they sell him.

We will have to see what happens. Still doubt Utd will sell (and especially to us) but you can also see why ITK suggests it could be possible, especially with Toby added into the mix.
