I'd assume that's CM
Shed 1 or 2 of Carrol, Mason and Bentaleb.
If I were Chadli, Carrol or Nabil I would be on the phone with my agent after not even making the bench on Sat. especially as two youth players, Winks and Onomah made the cut. Pretty clear those three are no longer in the managers plans.

We need to get squad numbers down in certain area's but none of them are keen to leave.

Judging by the bench yesterday, I would suspect Chadli, Yedlin and Carroll are the ones most unwanted. I don't think any of these players were injured?

We have Son, Dembele and potentially N'Jie to add to our squad so although the bench had a youthful look, we have got more options than what was on show vs Everton. I also think Poch has faith in the likes CCV, Winks etc so in his eyes, they are genuine options.

Interesting considering the bench looked weak on Saturday.

Only if you assume English (and Anglo-American) academy players are going to be crap. And it would look better if we spent £50m on Winkscescu, Onomaho and Quaters-Vickor. The whole point of the production-line philosophy is you back your own when you judge they are good enough, and don't bring in random bed blockers.

But I agree with Ghost H - it was a big statement from Poch picking Winks over Bentaleb/Carroll, Onomah over Chadli, and 2CV ahead of Yedlin (with Davies already a CB option). Those 4 players have got to be gone now.

Trix is talking about quantity not quality. As it stands our bench will always look weak, only Janssen, Vorm and Wanyama are anywhere near the quality of the first eleven players. We don't have anywhere near the strength in depth needed for a successful CL and PL campaign.

Got to say you paint a pretty bleak picture there. As far as I'm concerned Wimmer, Davies, Son and even Chadli for now are certainly very good squad players. Yes of course it would be good to have some additional quality players in a couple of key areas but it's not as bad as you suggest.

Which is why we need to thin out the players that aren't going to get any game time.

Chadli would be the only one of those 4 I would be happy for us to release.
Wimmer & Davies have proven themselves to be very good cover for Vertonghen and Rose respectively and I don't think we can go out and buy better alternatives, that wouldn't actually oust the two players currently in those positions.

Disagree. Wimmer is solid and could slot in to our starting eleven easily. Davies is close to our first team, and Trippier is good enough as a backup. It's really mostly in our AM3 that our options are severely lacking.

Anyway, Trix info is interesting. Do the fringe players really think that they can fight their way back to minutes on the pitch, or are they just comfortable enough getting a salary without playing?

It's very frustrating when players don't want to leave but it's inevitable when they are enjoying playing for a pretty successful team with a good team spirit. I seem to remember us having this problem before with the likes of Dawson, Lennon and Kaboul but they leave eventually.

I think Pochettino most likely sent out a message to those players in his team selection on Saturday. There were some notable omissions.

It's definitely true that we are overloaded numbers wise. I think we need around 4/5 players to leave with 2 quality additions replacing them. Usually though when we need to sell to buy like this then it makes signing players more difficult so i'm not actually expecting us to sign anyone else this window.

There's still 2.5 weeks to sell the 4 of them, and a lot of lower prem/upper championship clubs with money to spend.

Carroll and Yedlin have done the loan thing, are obviously not up to calibre, and just need to take the plunge. It will be hard for Carroll, as he's been at the club a very long time. But watching his mate Andros thrive since flying the nest should encourage him.

Chadli's had a warning missing the Euros, so has probably got the message. But he's still a popular and useful player, so it wouldn't be the worst thing if he didn't go.

Bentaleb is the only one where there's been a suggestion there is friction, so is probably the most urgent to remove. Although a good loan might add £10m to his value over the next year, and might suit all parties.

Yea you're right, I forgot about Wimmer, (we haven't seen him for ages), and Davies too. Not sure about Son though, still in the "needs to prove it" category for me. Chadli has the ability but he doesn't apply it so I don't consider him a good squad asset.

Losing the 4 will get our number back down to a fairly optimum 24.

I think after that incomings will be dependant on outgoings - i.e. GKN-Njie and Lopez-Vorm. I think they are potential marginal gains though, and not that vital to complete.

Unfortunately I agree. Even if you include N'Jie and Son, they are good looking prospects but not players that will currently challenge the first 11 for a place. They're the type of players I feel we need, that will actually give the manager something to think about when picking a side and maybe then we can adapt better to different match situations.

In terms of players wanting to leave, it must be very hard to push them out of Spurs at the moment. A fantastic place of work as in the new training ground, Wembley being a venue for us and a new stadium coming. All those things would make you rather try and stay and prove a point.

I can see people commenting on ITK, but I can't see any updates for ten days or so. Any chance it could go in the ITK thread?

This is the thing that frustrates some supporters (including me). I know balancing act is important, but I do hate hearing we have to shift a few before we can bring in, which is not the release more funds. Rather, to free up space in the squad.

Bring our targets in and tell those who don't want to leave 'to do one' as they wont get games. Figure of speech btw.

Maybe that was part of Poch's plan in naming that bench. Give those players a gentle shove out the door.

I think it's clear that Mason has some role to play under Pochettino this season, and although I don't love him to pieces, I can live with that if the two others do go.

The entire Sherwood-introduced concept that fans like players better if they have a foreign sounding name is pure bullshit.

Nothing changed with Mason. If we receive an acceptable offer he can go. Not being actively pushed, but far from a must keep. He like most of the others doesn't want to leave, so I doubt he will this time round. Will only get limited game time though, and even less if we can move others on. ;)
