Hoping that, given he's off, we get confirmation of Walker leaving ASAP and then details of at least two imminent additions

Pleased we are looking for a 3rd striker, but concerned we are putting all our eggs in one Barkley basket as far as an attacking midfielder goes.

Which is a very dangerous game. Make no mistake we definitely need another attacking player who can take players on and make things happen in the final third. I'm not totally convinced by Barkley, but I am convinced he's the type of player we need.

We won't pay £50m as he's in the last year of his contract and Everton have weakened their bargaining position, but if Levy tries a trademark stand off until the last minute expecting them to sell for £20m paid over a decade etc then it's not going to happen imo.

Also a bit concerned that we replace Wimmer with a guy who has far less experience than even Wimmer had when he joined us. Unless Poch really feels CCV is ready to step up.

Long way to go yet, but it does kind of feel very much that we think we just need to pick up a few bits and pieces players and we're done.

I don't expect ready made world class stars, but we need a few that can at least be up to challenging the established first 11.

In the Cabinessence snippet from last night he says:

"Much to be done last knockings as ever."

This is troubling. I understand we have to be circumspect with our spending but waiting until the last few days of the window is very risky and sometimes counter-productive. PL clubs are swimming in cash and aren't desperate to sell. As we saw last summer, waiting until deadline day to buy Sissoko didn't drive the price down. We ended up paying what Newcastle wanted! In addition, the player misses out on vital pre-season training.

If we're trying a similar tactic with Everton and Barkley, I have my doubts that it will work.

No point in worrying about replacing a player with so little trust from the manager as is invested in Wimmer. It's easy to replace somebody who simply is not picked for playing time.

Where can i find yesterdays thread to see the cabinessence itk?
I'll assume the liberty of reposting this, since it seems to have slipped more than one of us:

"Cabinessence:

Anyone not mentioned not discussed so really don't know

Dier not going
Jenssen not going
3rd striker to be signed
another RB to be signed
Some promising young players to be picked up but no megabucks marquees heading our way
Much to be done last knockings as ever.
know its not what some may not want to hear but that's it ....

just remembered Walker thing is he had a bit of a tummy on him which Poch asked him to lose and Walker came across a bit gangsta so goodbye Walks.

Rose had similar confrontation for whatever reasons the year before but showed Poch he was up for it hence still here
Theres always next season

On Barkley:

Sorry Bob but bit slurry at the time so forgot to ask about him

Josh King:

I mentioned Josh King but he just said yes maybe, which means he didn't know"

I find myself in the strange position of not being convinced about Barkley, but at the same time wanting us to sign him asap because it appears we have no other realistic targets.

The Barkley bit is believable imo. I can see how he would relish the idea of playing with a number of England stars and a manager who would show him respect. Really warming to the idea of him joining us.

I'm not overly convinced either, but I think it's important that we sign him to keep Poch happy who clearly wants him. I don't think many would argue that he isn't at least a better option than Sissoko too.

We have to filter all prospective signings through the lens of possibly being away at the Bernabeu in the CL group next year and Alli goes down clutching his ankle. You look to the bench and see Sissoko or Barkley - which makes you do a little vomit in your mouth, and which makes you go OK throw him on and see what he can do?

I wish ITK all got posted in the RO for the benefit of lazy fuckers like me who pretend to be too busy having a life to read through the daily ITK thread once it reaches 10+ pages

Ali's banned for 3 games so one may start!

FWIW I think Barkley will be a great signing, even at 25m given the fees this year.

I have an image of Ben as Bart Simpson. Judging by his grammar he never seems to age beyond 10

Whatever happens this summer, BEN's flagrant disrespect for basic grammar is one thing you can always rely on.

To disregard something you need to be acquainted with it. Ben and Grammar have never been in the same forest, let alone the same tree :p

I believe Ben when he says Janssen would be sold if we get another forward.I think he's a player we're happy to keep and give another chance unless we're able to get someone of top quality. I'm actually happy with Kane, Janssen and Son as our attacking options. I'd be more interested in another pacey attacking midfielder just in case Lamela is never the same.

Lets keep doing what we've been doing and signing young players for Poch to develop. I get the feeling Barkley under Poch will reach his potential.
