Vucinic has been quality for Roma for years now, and in that time he has had some pretty decent competition for his place. Would be over the moon if we signed him, a close second would be to have Berba back. Pretty similar, but I feel Vucinic wants a fresh start and would WANT to play for us. I can only see Berba returning as a last resort from both parties. Even 15m seems cheap for a player of Vucinic's quality.

agree 100%. i think we have a good chance of signing him. kind of like palacios. they both need a fresh start.

I think there's some sense in there. Vucinic would fit the Levy model (a good model it is too) so much better. As much as most of us would settle for Berbatov, that move is littered with clusterfuck potential isn't it. Wrong age, no sell on, already somewhat unloved by some, seen as a cast off by the team we hate to feed. This is Sheringham, Keane territory that we've been down before. It rarely ends well.

This has to be the botom line on this, surely.

If Modric was refusing so what? still doesn't change anything, he said himself (if quotes are to believed) that levy said he can watch from the stands (or similar) the only way out of this is to show him we mean buisness in the transfer market, then maybe offer him a pay rise! If Chelsea don't hit the ground running they are in serious shit, a squad thats ageing, had a big blip last year and a new manager that hasn't experianced a losing streak, and has'nt had the press on his back! their trying to buy their way out of it by unsettleing their rivals! absent's makes the heart grow fonder, sit it out Luka, i'm betting a good start to the season and a end of the transfer window changes your mind!

There are many aspects to Chelsea's shenanigans - one fo them is that they are no longer the big lids on the block (Citeh are), and they don't like it. There was a little story a while back that Roman was prepared to bank-roll them in a slug-fest with Citeh - I think the Torres deal and this farce are them trying to show that they can still dominate the transfer market and buy anyone.

Let's call a spade a spade..........Palacios ain't getting games therefore the manager has lost faith in him.

It appears that Diarra will be his replacement and to be honest....he is a better player than Wilson..........if that's the way things pan out..I will be happy.

I agree, Diarra is an upgrade (not a huge one) on Palacios, and I'd feel a lot more comfortable if we brought him in first, but I can see us waving goodbye to Palacios, only to see us loose out on Diarra and Vidal (and even Parker) and ending up with a midfield lacking any tenacity at all for three months until Sandro recovers (and he'll take a while to recover top form after three months out as well).

Personally I don't understand the idiocy of treating Palacios the way Redknapp did last year, and I don't see why we are selling him - under no pressure - full stop.

If we end up with Huddelstone as the only vaguely DM (which he's not anyway) we are fucked.

I think you're right about about Wilson, would love him to stay and rediscover his form, but I think the move would do him good all things considered. BC is right about making sure we have his replacement BEFORE letting him go. JJ is another who really needs a fresh start to rekindle his career, the sighs and groans he gets at the lane can't help. Would be a good squad player to keep, but I doubt he would be happy with that, especially considering the Euros coming up.

someone said Anderlecht's representatives were here, well it seems to be true but they were meeting with arsenal according to the sun

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3698322/Arsenal-in-for-14m-Anderlecht-whizkid-Romelu-Lukaku.html

There's a surprise. Putting my goon hate to one side, it would be a great move for the lad looking at their previous form with youth. That said I hope we have at least tried to get him, he could get immediate first team football with us with our current limp strikeforce - but when we get Vucinic and Rossi will he be happy on the bench?;-)

Jenas needs to leave . He clearly has no future at the club( apart from being a sub). Surely someone at his age would want to be starting every game?.

You are forgetting about that marvellously versatile player we signed in January. Apparently he can play anywhere across the midfield.

I don't think this would really be a problem, firstly I would welcome teams trying to play a higher line against us, it's the wankers that sit back and get ten men behind the ball that trouble us, and Berbatov is not that slow (VDV isn't a cart horse either). Also we have players like Bale, Lennon etc who would prevent teams playing a high line.

I'm having trouble trying to get my noodle around this one. I expect I've been swayed by the stuff I read which suggested Hernandez posed a greater threat for Utd than Berbatov, particularly against the better sides.

We have some quick players in Bale and Lennon but I believe both are deficient in terms of their off the ball movement, Lennon in particular. I still think we'd need runners from central midfield and full backs who got into the final third more often. Rome wasn't built in a day, I suppose.

two schools of thought on this:

2) we need that uber type, one who will hold the ball up, can play with their back to goal at times - and can bring others into play, no more so the likes of VDV, bringing the best out of him and benefiting the overall team dynamic...offering a more powerful focal point up top.

Mark Viduka type at his best? Btw I agree.

I'm finally realising that we really won't buy unless we sell/loan 5 players. Will be seriously pissed if Lukaku goes to the scum for 14m

Are people on here kidding? 7m for Berbs is an absolute snip and in no way stops us from chasing other targets. For me, getting Berbatov in the bank now means that we have one hell of an insurance policy if we can't make bigger things happen. The real question is, would he come back to us?

Taking into account the itk said, " keep us informed of the situation" Suggest more to me, he would be the deadline day, nay hour, if we hadn't purchased any shiny new striker,

HOWEVER, I do thing it is prudent to remember.

There is NO chance of Berbatov ever coming back to us...........he went on strike to get a move FFS.............we are DIRT to him!
And perhaps more likely Levy least most fav person.

Whilst it fair to say "never say never" All in all I think its extremely unlikely that Berbs would be re-signed,

Just seen on BBC gossip that Steve Bruce wants to take keane and Defoe to Sunderland. Hopefully there's some truth and we can get some wheels in motion with incomings

If Modric refuses to play for us fine him the maximum allowed in his contract for each game he refuses to play for us, would imagine the maximum is 4 weeks wages so refuses to play 3 games then no wages for 12 weeks, hit him hard in the pocket IF the allegation is true

Sunderland have bought so many players while I have been away I can't imagine they have much money left, Defoe/Keane would cost the best part of £15m+ between them

Berbs will still be a good player at 36-37, his lazy style is ripe for a long career, he will be another Teddy, quality well into his mid 30's and beyond, get him in but strict contract clauses about attitude and behaviour
