What happens if you're all out of man-the-fuck-up?

Tuck into one of these instead.

I don't understand the hysteria on here. Everyone is willing to accept the worst case scenario and not the positive. For instance Peanut, who is supposedly the creme de la creme of ITKs says under no circumstances will Modric be sold and will a Spurs player come 1st September. Yet, everyone seems willing to ignore or dismiss it in favour of the negative speculation and opinion and consequently resign themselves to him leaving. Why are people always willing to second guess and assume the worst. There is yet to be any conclusive evidence that Spurs will do business with either Utd or Chelsea for Modric. In fact quite the contrary.

It's a bid with the sole purpose of unsettling the player, unfortunately this tactic has a history of working - it's basically tapping up via the media.

Because Luka is unaware of anything that's going on in the world?

Jesus Christ. Are we really thinking that, we, the forum goers know more about a player's situation than either the player or the club and its management?

You think Luka hadn't known for the best part of a year that United, Chelsea and others are interested in acquiring his services? You think a bid submitted makes any difference?

I don't.

Marin is in no way a replacement for modric, totally different only thing they have in common is the hair, Marin is a upgrade on current form lennon and cover for bale and VDV

I don't think he will be sold this summer. He has 5 years remaining on a 6 year contract. I know player power is strong, but generally player power comes into play with 3 years remaining not over 4 years, which is generally what players initially sign on for when joining a club.

Also if Arsenal can hold onto Fabregas as they did last summer when the biggest and best footballing club courted him I think we can hold onto Modric for another year - Chelsea are not in Barca's league.

If Barca came in for Modric though, then I might reassess my views

If Modric were to leave, I'd prefer it by about 1000 times that he went to Barcelona then a premier league club

Chelsea certainly don`t have the pull of Barca, but they can easily match their spending power....

Marin said he/Werder turned down two offers from English clubs, which other places have said is us and Liverpool. There's probably stuff in the Marin thread about it.

It's hard to figure out which is most annoying, the eternal optimists claiming that there are real reasons why Modric wouldn't happily skip his way to Old Trafford given the opportunity or the wrist slashers blaming anything but the fact that this is how the world - especially the football world - works. It's not Modric's fault, he's doing what most people would do if offered more money and more glory in a money and glory business.

Go and ask any artist if he would rather exhibit at the town hall and sell his pictures for £50 or at White Cube and sell them for £50,000.

And Levy handles these situations better than most in his position. We don't get bent over, we make the right noises and postures but we CAN NOT STOP THE WORLD FROM TURNING any more than ManU could stop Real taking Ronaldo, or Arsenal could stop Overmars, Petit, Adebayor, Diarra, Hleb and soon Fabregas being taken.

We are all susceptible to the bigger fish in the food chain. All fish are, it's just that there are fewer predators the further up the food chain you go.

Our players and Chairman are under pressure because we failed to win a game for nearly three months against mostly inferior opposition. CL football would have made a lot of this pressure go away.

This is an inevitability. If Levy keeps Modric here one more season I think he's pulled off the unbelievable. I won't blame either if he can't. Modric has already issued the not very thinly veiled "come on" and his agent is no doubt already choosing to upgrade to the marble shower fittings in his monaco moored yacht.

And no, an offer doesn't mean we have to sell, but Brett's right, this is how the game begins and no-one gives a fuck when it's us doing it.

One of the few times I agree with BC.

We are only the 9th richest club in Europe because under DL we do sell at the right price.

Nail on the head and there is only one man to blame for that..... He can come out and posture as much as he likes and make threats of quitting if we sell our best players, but the bottom line is he allowed our team to go on a massive slump after the Milan away game and done nothing to address the problem....
