Although it's probably a contributory factor, I can't imagine that it's only about fees. That would be beyond ridiculous.

If we want to buy quality then it’s a good chance it’s the fee or the player has higher ambitions.

What we got to remember is, we only have space for 1 player unless others are sold that make up our present squad.

Its important to take notice of the lines Poch has repeated a few times. Levy and Lewis said they wanted Poch to look after the team so that when we arrived at the new stadium we were in a position to fight for the top 4. We have obviously surpassed those expectations, but the club isn’t ready to subsequently back it up financially in the market. Basically, we are ahead of plan, and to take the next step to league winners, the club isn’t ready (yet). Which is why Poch has repeatedly said we need to change the way we operate. The club wasn’t ready for where we are as a side, wanting to take the next step. That’s my take on the whole situation and reading between the lines.

It looks more and more like ENIC are simply not prepared to invest significantly in the transfer market for us to take the next step.

The players Poch wants are too expensive for the club to sign. The players the club can sign, Poch doesn’t want.

The result is the transfer impasse we saw last summer. The result next summer will likely be Poch going to United.

I think the myth of "securing Champions League football" in order to attract transfer window signings is well and truly dead. Its 100% about the money.

Also - stating the obvious - but when it comes to recruiting players, it would be helpful if Poch was more emphatic about staying here. Poch is a huge selling point - but only if players know for certain he is committed, and not running off to Manchester or Madrid this summer.

To be honest with this news I’m wondering whether Poch has already made his decision and Levy won’t back a manager that’s going to be departing.

Really hope I’m wrong and it’s just Poch not wanting players that leave us with a problem later in getting rid if they don’t workout and we struggle to sell like last summer

Defo has to be about money. No one can say e.g. auba went arsenal because they played good football or are a big club. He joined at their most toxic state ffs, leaving a better club for that. Money talks

Maybe said players want assurances that poch will still be here next season before they commit to the project and maybe he can’t do that.

We don’t know but it might be about more than not being willing to pay the money

With it looking more and more likely it will happen next season, would seriously take the gloss off moving into the new stadium if the best manager we've had in years were to move to rival just before we move in. Next summer feels like a watershed moment for us and I just hope ENIC can somehow back Poch because can't help feel that he will be thinking ENIC are taking his work for granted and he has taken us as far as he can.

Not sure what to make of all this...

Years of graft and toil to get the club in incredible shape, and then we get cold feet when we're right on the cusp of something amazing?

Something doesn't add up...

Only thing I can think of is we don’t have the money. What else could it be?

It’s likely a combination of Poch’s desire to only add sure-fire upgrades to the squad and unaffordable prices/unwillingness to join us. I’m sure there are quite a few players Poch and our scouting department agree are instant upgrades and “ones for the future” but due to incompatible prices and player desires, it’s simply not matching up.

so poch wants only certain players..they are unlikely to come to us even though we have supposedly £100m. You have to ask yourself one question...if you were a striker why would come to us? Its only likely to be for 4 weeks that you may be 1st choice
This seems to be missed by a lot of folks. Goes for other positions as well. It's all good going for an exciting up-and-coming young midfielder, but if he wants a guaranteed starting spot then it's simply never going to happen - Poch doesn't play that game.

I suspect that something has to change if we really believe we will do better in the summer operating the way we do. I already stated that our preferred is not their preferred. That is why I stated that challenging times for the club and Poch. We can’t get his preferred, he has to go have a long hard look at himself. Not a criticism, but observation.
We are told we have money for the right player but appears that we don't have the right package to get any of Poch's preferred targets. Well we'll have Eriksens and Toby's transfer fees and wages to 'play with' in the Summer to try to maintain our current position. BUT WE ARE NEVER GOING TO IMPROVE unless something drastically changes!

More likely other clubs pay players £100-150K per week to sit on the bench, the players seem happy enough with that!

I will answer this one

Because we have moths in our trophy cabinet

This. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the opinion among players outside of England is that Tottenham are relying on Poch (who no one knows if he will stay), and that when he leaves the club will fall back into the EL swamp. Even Arsenal have a few cups from the last toxic years they've had.

And I hope no one will throw the "But we have a new stadium and a great training ground" in as if it's comparable to titles.

True - but it might help keep the likes of Kane and (to a lesser extent) Eriksen, and staying the CL gives us money to pay wages and pay off the stadium debt

As for the ITK - if our current situation (i.e. all top 4 scorers injured) doesn't force a bit of a flex by Levy, then nothing will. This is far from ideal and more than a little worrying

All ITK leads me to believe that its little to do with money and more our stature. I actually feel sorry for Levy as he will get a barrage of shit for this but seems like its not within his control.

That may be the case for some players, but others (Grealish, etc) that can't be the reason.

I think it's a mixture of agents' fees and a power-dynamic thing between Poch and Levy.

Just my onions...

I feel this might be the end of Poch's reign. We won't be able to get better without getting the kind of players Poch is targeting. And we can't get them because despite all the improvement Poch has done, we are not the pull of City, Chelsea, United, Liverpool or even Arsenal. What more can Poch actually do. We can't win the league or CL with this squad and can't seem to improve the squad to be able to win them

Can't get Grealish, Barkley or Zaha?

I reckon we could if we had stumped up the moolah!
