So on that basis Newcastle are a step up from Soton because they have 50k fans watching and they have a bit of history?

The fact is Bale left us because his ambition and ability trajectory didn't match ours. Same with Suarez at Liverpool. Schneiderlin and Soton will possibly play out the same way.

None of these clubs look capable of showing the significant improvement required to challenge the top 4. That makes it a sideways step for me.

If Sturridge left Liverpool for Spurs would he be furthering his Champions League ambitions? No. Would Schneiderlin? No.
We are closer to CL than Southampton are. We have finished consistently above Southampton in previous years. We are a bigger team than Southampton at the moment and in the past. We are not a sideways step from Southampton, we are bigger step. Obviously not as big a step as from Southampton to a CL team, but a step nonetheless, and most definitely not sideways. Our fans are starting to get a small club mindset and it's rather depressing.

Do you think a player with Champions League ambition is going to be satisfied with our history and ambition?

Finishing in UEFA spot 1,2 or 3 is hardly going get his agent purring. That would make it a sideways move. Anybody here really think we are going to break top 4 next season? United, City will strengthen significantly Chelsea are a distance ahead and will stregthen leaving Arsenal as the team to displace.

I have little confidence we will without 'significant' investment and history suggests that's unlikely.

Chin up little man. No need for throwing the towel in yet, season hasn't even started. It's traditionally about October around here.

Sideways from Southampton. Fucking hell, you've got it bad eh

Personally think the examples mentioned - bale and suarez are in an entirely different category of player to MS so don't bear relevance. No disrespect to MS but suarez and bale were the best player in the league when they left, and were purchased arguably the 2 biggest clubs in football.

Add to this Manchester United sold Cristiano Ronaldo to Real, just as we did bale. Presumably they lack ambition too.

Newcastle are a bigger club. Yes. Are they a forward step from Southampton given that they're a mess, not competing in Europe nor are they close to winning trophies. No.

Did Bale leave us because we weren't getting top four. No. Did he leave us because one of the biggest clubs in the world wanted him. Yes.

Your argument is jumping all over the place, so back to the only point I'm debating...
WE ARE NOT A SIDEWAYS STEP FROM SOUTHAMPTON.

Look what both clubs achieved in Europe after he left.

That ITK on the unknown Argentinian, wonder if it's Tevez, apparently an 'unknown premier league club' is making an attempt to bring him back (not L'pool).

Unknown Argie, unknown club, unknown short bald man. In the bag lads

jasper on so quoting 2 posts by lesallen, so has a nested sort of quoting system so i find it hard to understand exactly what hes replying to but its either about imbula to inter or levy in general struggling to do deals, probably the latter: Nothing of the sort Les. I am reasonably confident agreements is in place. Trippier is almost certain, but then again we have been there before. Targets in main has not changed and still confident. They won't be dragged out. This is my summary.
So have lessons been learnt?

WE ARE NOT A SIDEWAYS STEP FROM SOUTHAMPTON.

On the basis of the original statement whereby the player wants Champions League football?

We have the same likelihood of being able to offer it in the next few years as Soton or Liverpool which is none.

That makes it a sideways move in terms of ambition for me as he is still very unlikely to play Champions League football.

You are only the 3rd person today (I think) who says that and I don't agree with any of you.

I would love him here, absolutely love it.. But the fact he wanted out of England and wants to go back home means I'm not even gonna get a 'semi' when. His name is mentioned....sadly he is about as off limits as it get in my opinion. Sad..we should of moved before west ham loan... I remember ITK that we were looking at him at the u21 World Cup or something...

Would Tevez want to come back to England?

Pretty sure if there are any offers on the table outside this country he'd take them, and that's without considering why he'd leave Juve to come to Spurs.

I think we're putting 2 and 2 together and getting a wookie here.

Hey!

Didn't (we quite recently) secure a 4th place finish for two seasons under HR? Granted one year by some fluke, it wasn't enough for CL...so how can you speak so assuredly of our upcoming failure? Your argument is a strange one
